Possibly one of the best games I have ever played. Fiendishly complicated but not to the point of complete resignation. You WILL get frustrated with yourself and maybe end up fluking the odd panel here and there, but overall this game is exactly the antidote to dumb Call of Duty and other shooty shooty bang bang games. Minimum requirements: A Brain. Patience.

Recently someone on the internet noted that adventure games are only playable once. Also recently I saw someone playing The Case of the Golden Idol on Twitch. These two events motivated me to revisit this game and see how I will enjoy playing it the second time. I played the base game in 2022 and DLCs this year in January. Turns out this was enough time to forget the details, but remember the general events. So was solving the same puzzles again, just quicker. I must say I enjoyed the second playthrough like the first one:

* noticed some elements that I missed the first time
* enjoyed the story
* liked the distinct art style and music

Though I fell the game is a bit pricey (wait when it is on sale), I recommend it.

Incredibly clever game. Only game I've played since Return of the Obra Dinn to scratch that same murder mystery itch.
A lot of clever twists and reveals that build on each other in unforeseen ways. The more blind you go into it the better.

That said my save got corrupted halfway through (my game would launch and immediately force close) and I spent like an hour troubleshooting and downloading an exterior save to continue my playthrough. This seems to be a well-documented issue across all platforms and to see it still persisting 2 years after release is really sad. How hard is it to implement save slots? Like jeez.

Only other criticisms are the hint system sucks and I think Case 3 is a a pretty significant difficulty spike compared to the previous 2 that are practically tutorials. Game could benefit from a bit of smoothing on the difficulty at points. But yea definitely worth a buy.
