I still like it and play it every so often
but ye
imagine if they had just made it good tho all it really needed to be was payday 2 ported to a new engine with a graphic over haul
we dont even have 0.01% of the weapon variety payday 2 had
hell the UI doesnt even split primaries from secondaries so you try to bu ya secondary and its like lol how about your 8th primary
Yeah.
Starbreeze execs views those of us that bought Payday 3 and will buy Payday 3 as targets to exploit. That's all we are to them.
The majority of the stuff you love from the previous game was established by OVERKILL and was a standard for the game even 7 years after they've left the team. The objectives, how escapes works, the enemy ai (or what's left of it), the very basics of gameplay was established by OVK in 2013 (also kind of expanded upon until 2015). Seriously.
Starbreeze just chose to simplify it to the point of it becoming ridiculous just because they wanted to make sure that the old entry skill level was lowered considerably in order to allow more people to buy and play the game.
But they also overcomplicated everything so the skill level wasn't really that lowered in the end. They even overcomplicated everything for themselves as well when difficulty hp scaling for enemies was introduced, weapon balancing was really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in that period and continues to be to this day!
PD2 used to be simple, just more oriented on taking cover and defending yourself instead of aggressively seeking out cops throughout the entire map to kill them. It may seem like boring gameplay to you but it's satifying once you get into it, defending yourself effectively without much loss to resources, doing/defending objectives together, massive shootouts when moving as a team across an open area, don't even get me started on the underappreciated suppression mechanic.
It was a much more difficult game since there was much less skills that were oriented about killing specifically and cops could kill you as fast as you could kill them if they caught you offguard so to say. But it was fun, you'd get satisfaction of getting your payday and having fun with the time you spent with your team.
Eventually it degraded into the active-skill ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ we have today thanks to SBZ, people running around aggressively to keep their skills & boosts active, while it is fun to have a powerfantasy like that it's more of a result of a poorly balanced game and it also discouraged the whole teamplay gameplay the game was well known for. It also gave birth to Rush, Edge & Grit but those are much even worse as you need to do extremely specific tasks to activate them and they don't really last long enough to make a difference.
I could keep going on about this but the post is already long enough. If you want a better experience focused on co-op teamplay try out Original Pack[modworkshop.net] or Eclipse Overhaul[modworkshop.net] for PAYDAY 2.
we wanted to have it before payday 3 came out, not only as a fun challenge but also because we thought that once payday 3 would be out we'd probably not go back to payday 2.
and about that.. well let's say we were half right, cause while we don't want to go back to payday 2, we also don't want to come back to payday 3.
