Konverzija molekula ATP, L-aspartat, i 5-aminoimidazol-4-karboksiribonukleotid (CAIR) u 5-aminoimidazol-4-(N-sukcinilkarboksamid) ribonukleotid, ADP, i fosfat posredstvom enzima fosforibozilaminoimidazolsukcinokarboksamid sintaza (SAICAR sintetaza) predstavlja osmi korak u de novo biosintezi purinskih nukleotida.[4]
