Stepping down / demotion

What's happening?

Hey everyone,

I'm gonna be stepping away from the Inkipedia lead role.

I'll be stepping down to admin to maintain code and automations, and provide general opinions and maybe the occasional interface change. Heddy will be taking over from me as Inkipedia's lead bureaucrat. Heddy will also be the Discord server owner and our NIWA rep. We'll have another bureaucrat soon to bring the active bureaucrats back to three (Prod is de-facto as owner).

In the future, I may also step back from my admin role depending on how things go with my new workload and mental health.

Why?

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, and I've come to realise that spending all day in front of a computer doing my engineering role, then all evening too for wikis and chat just... isn't what I want any more. It's starting to feel like it's doing me more harm than good. In good ol' ADHD nature, I'm craving something different – something more real, more in-person. I want to get out there and be present. I'm going to take my engineering skills and move to healthcare. Something that makes a real difference to people face-to-face.

Plus, now that I'm sharing a flat, gaming and the late-nights just aren't fitting into my life as much any more.

But honestly, my love for Splatoon has really faded. I haven't touched the game in months. Those of you who know me in-person will know that I love going to LANs and conventions. I recently went to a LAN and, despite meeting two Inkipedia members (hi!), I didn't play any Splatoon. At all. That passion just... isn't there any more.

And while I would say "don't let fandoms and communities dictate how you feel about the game behind it", I'm very happy that I've met so many people in the competitive scene, and truly my life over the last just-shy-of-a-decade(!) has been shaped because of it. I never would have stuck around this community and kept up with the wiki work without the wonderful people. I want to continue. However, it's no longer at the forefront, and nor can I let it be.

Thank you to everyone who's helped make this wiki such a success. To all the staff, past and present, and to all the editors, you've all been, and continue to be, amazing.

I hope that the wiki, its interwiki family, and ABXY and NIWA as a whole, continues to thrive and that new fans keep discovering it, whether that's through a new main series game or some new DLC.

Take care. Look after yourself. Be good to one another. Slate Talk Contribs
