This is my sandbox :) I work on drafts here.
Do not edit this page unless I've given you permission, or you're correcting something site-wide such as an updated link or new template. If you want to discuss anything about what's being cooked up here (eg. questions, pointing out a mistake I've made) leave a message on either my talk page or this sandbox's talk page.

Wiki philosophy
Wiki editing tips
- Be bold!
- No-one is going to bite you if you make a mistake. The wiki needs all the help it can get! Only repeated ignoring of warnings of having broken rules will make people take action against you, but experienced editors can tell the difference between vandalism and honest mistakes, so don't be afraid to try editing.
- It's better for a new editor to make mistakes that will help them learn than for them to remain too scared to try editing! Other editors will correct any mistakes made.
- Don't ask to ask, just ask. Don't point out mistakes, just fix them. Discussion pages are for asking for help and/or discussing problems in articles, not leaving notes for what work others should do.
- Since mid-to-late 2005 there has been an increasing focus by Wikipedians, especially new Wikipedians, on designing pretty user pages, userspace widgets, fancy signatures, and other similar stuff rather than contributing content. This is probably not a good trend, but it is unlikely to change. The best content contributors often neglect these things, and vice versa.
- Please try your best save others' time, but acknowledge that you cannot instantly learn everything and edit perfectly, especially not within your first attempts. Learning is part of the process, and reliable wiki communities are eager to help new editors!
- Real life is always your priority. Do not edit if you're currently (or should be) occupied by your real life health, schooling, work, etc. in favor of editing. Do not edit on an empty stomach.
- No edit summary is better than a bad edit summary!
- Keep summaries professional, short, to-the-point and with minimal non-descriptive comments. Assume at all times that your edit summary will be seen disconnected from all previous edit summaries you've sent.
- Examples of bad edit summaries:
- Anything that is not a summary of your edit. Ask yourself "could this summary help patrollers and the editors that will arrive to this page after me understand, at a glance, exactly what my edit was? or will they have to waste time reading something unhelpful?"
- "Nah." when correcting others' edits
- "Same as last edit" (unhelpful if you are making the same type of edit across multiple pages)
- "Fixed a typo. Sorry I don't have time to make any bigger edits lately." (all contributions are welcome!)
- "Easy" / "Oof"
- "Fixed a problem but I'm too tired to write a summary right now" / "I'm sleepy right now, I may have made some mistakes in my edit" (go get some rest)
- "I don't know how to describe my edit, just look at it" (you can leave it blank instead!)
- Using humor/memes in summaries in general
- Explaining your personal thoughts/feelings regarding something you're editing outside of a wiki context
- Explaining anything about yourself in general that is irrelevant to the edit being made
- Unless clarifying an error within a professional tone, comments regarding repeat edits to the same page are generally not helpful. It's fine if you missed something and have to make two edits in quick succession, we've all been there
- It's good to have a concept of image, conciseness and privacy. I advise against using your real name or birthdate online.
- Use shortcuts at every opportunity. Please do not do lengthy, difficult work if easier options or tools to improve the process exist. strive to make your (wiki) life easier!
- For example: there's no need to transcribe text by hand when handy editors are able to pull it out of the game's files upon request
Splatoon wiki specific tips
- So far all the games in this series have been live service games. There's single player components but the main "meat" of the game is the multiplayer experience. As such, comparing Inkipedia's general structure and operation to other videogame wikis isn't always constructive.
- Of course we're not like Mariowiki, Mario games are standalone singleplayer experiences that almost never get updates or DLC!
- Team Fortress Wiki is a comparable high quality wiki with similar scope, as the game series have similar structure
- "Lore" and the analytical lenses through which bits of lore are connected to one another often veer more towards the fanon side. Interpretation and examination is fine and fun, but not always within our wiki's scope
- Staff is here to coordinate and help, not call every shot 100% of the time
Tools I use for wiki editing (mostly FOSS)
- AutoHotKey is your friend for mass editing (eg. maintenance tasks).
- Here is the main AutoHotKey script I use: after installing AHK, copy the below text into a text editor and save it as
myscript.ahk
, then in your file browser double click the script to initiate it. Press the esc key or close AHK to turn it off (note the option to close the script with the esc key is part of this specific script and not part of the program). Lines that start with;
are comments explaining what the above line does.
- Here is the main AutoHotKey script I use: after installing AHK, copy the below text into a text editor and save it as
myscript.ahk |
---|
Esc::ExitApp
|
- Notepad is my go-to text editor. I highly recommend it as it's easily customizable and allows the use of regular expressions when using the find and replace function, which I use very frequently when it comes to wiki editing.
- RegEx cheatsheet
- This is an ideal text editor if you're performing large wiki edits and would like to temporarily save them to your device in case the wiki source editor loses your data. Go to Settings>Preferences>Backup and configure the backup settings to your needs. In my experience this program's autosave function is very reliable!
- Right click>Move Document>Move/Clone to Other View lets you see two text files side by side
- I frequently use this site that lets you mass-open tabs inputted as a list. Do note this could tank your device's memory usage, do know its limits; I user Firefox and my PC specs are noted here
- I use ClipDiary to save my clipboard history. When editing the wiki directly without use of Notepas 's autosave function, I have a habit of quickly tapping ctrl a → ctrl c every so often to "save" my progress to my clipboard. This has saved my work from getting eaten quite a few times!
- Press ctrl q to open ClipDiary's clipboard.
- I recommend lowering the amount of saved clips down from 10,000 by going to File>Settings>Options>Database as it can cause memory issues (your computer would be saving up to 10000 images/strings of text in the background at all times!).
- I have mine set to 150. If you set it to a number in the thousands range make sure to regularly clear it out.
- I don't recommend using clip history programs that typically come pre-installed with computers (eg. on Windows 10) as they tend to have annoying limitations.
- I use GIMP for image editing; I'm told paint.NET, Krita, Clip Studio Paint (paid) and Photoshop (paid, expensive) work just as well. You basically can use anything but MSPaint or phone apps. I use GIMP as that's what I'm used to, but I wouldn't really recommend it.
- I use CMD and PowerShell for some basic command line commands, but any command line will do.
- Through CMD I use Optipng to optimize .png files before uploading.
- Through PowerShell I mass rename files, through there are other methods.
- I use ExifCleaner to clean up files' metadata before uploading.

New Years Greeting 2020
The New Years greeting for 2020 was published as a message from Mr. Grizz, wishing a great 2020 to people who did and did not have a vacation and saying Grizzco Industries will continue to offer part-time work during the new year. The reflection of the number "2020" in the image, partially hidden by the lifesaver, spells out "SOS", and the waves around the bottom each letter spell out "Save Our Salmons".

type
and meta
Filling out this section is vital to help set up the automatic categorization. For all files that use |type=, they will be added into the entered game
's category. As an example, for a file template filled out with |game=Splatoon 3
and |type=shoeicon
, the file will automatically be added to Category:Splatoon 3 shoe icons.
Up to four types can be added per file via separating the inputs with a comma.
The meta
category works similarly, only that the types entered here will not look at the game
parameter to apply a category. For example, an image of a Nintendo Switch that needs to go with other systems will use meta=System
to be added into Category:Consoles.
Files with no entered type will be added to a maintenance category.

{{Construction}}
Music is a core part of the Splatoon series's identity. Though the series' music is composed by real composers working at Nintendo, each song is presented as if produced and performed by in-universe musicians and bands.
Each entry in the series heavily features a set of flagship idol characters. These idols are presented as very popular musicians and performers in-universe; they host Splatfests, performing live throughout the events' duration.
Release history
In-game music
Each game release contains a substantial amount of music between the plaza, battle, hero mode, Splatfest and news songs. Additional multiplayer battle songs are typically added to the available roster in subsequent post-launch updates.
In the case of Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, a substantial amount of new music was added when the titles received paid downloadable content in the form of the Octo Expansion and the Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass, respectively.
In Splatoon and Splatoon 2, each game's soundtrack may be listened to when playing the minigames Squid Beatz and Squid Beatz 2, respectively. Most Splatoon music did not return in Splatoon 2; certain Splatoon-exclusive songs could be unlocked in Squid Beatz 2 via the use of amiibo.
In Splatoon 3, the game's soundtrack is available in-game via the jukebox in the lobby that was added to the game in version 3.0.0. A substantial amount of Splatoon and Splatoon 2 songs returned in this game, which play in the lobby at scheduled intervals. Additionally, previously game-exclusive idol songs such as City of Color and Color Pulse received significant new remixes, heard during Splatfests if the Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass has been purchased.
Live concerts
- Main article: Live performances
Nintendo has held various live virtual concerts featuring the idol characters alongside a live band at various events. The concerts typically feature medleys of multiplayer battle songs and live renditions of the associated idols' songs.
Soundtrack albums
Collections of each game's original soundtrack have been released as merchandise in the form of album CDs. These albums are typically bundled with booklets containing lyrics to the idol songs within as well as in-universe story information.
The following albums have been released:
- Splatune containing the music available as of Splatoon's initial launch
- Shiokalive containing music from the live performances Niconico Tokaigi 2016 and Shiokalive at Cho Party 2016, music that was added to Splatoon in post-launch updates and an original bonus track
- Splatune 2 containing the music available as of Splatoon 2's initial launch
- Octotune containing the music from the Octo Expansion and an original bonus track
- Tentalive containing music from the live performances Tentalive at Tokaigi 2019 and Shiokalive at Cho Party 2016 and an original bonus track
- Splatune 3 containing the music available as of Splatoon 3's initial launch
The following album is upcoming:
- Ordertune, which was announced to contain music from Side Order, music from Splatoon 3 Live Concert featuring Deep Cut as well as music that was added to Splatoon 3 in post-launch updates
