Undercover Brella

From Inkipedia, the Splatoon wiki

The Undercover Brella is a main weapon in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3.

The Undercover Brella is a brella that can be fired in rapid succession while its semi-transparent shield is open. The shield will open after the first shot fires if the user is holding down the trigger. The shield cannot be launched, and has the second lowest durability in its class.

A minimum of three shots are needed to splat opponents with the Undercover Brella. Opponents who touch the shield will take 15 damage, which is half the damage taken from touching the shield of a Splat Brella or Tenta Brella. After splatting an opponent or assisting a teammate in splatting an opponent, the umbrella canopy instantly reappears if it had been destroyed, or is restored to maximum durability if it was still functional.

Appearance

The Undercover Brella looks like an ordinary black umbrella. The brown handle appears to be made of whangee, and the main shaft changes color to match the user's ink. The shield is black and semi-transparent with black beads at the end of the ribs and a brown-and-gold muzzle on top.

The Undercover Brella was announced[1] on 21 November 2017 as a part of the 2.0.0 update. It was released on 30 December 2017 at 02:00 UTC.[2] It comes with Ink Mine and Splashdown.

It appears in two Octo Expansion stations:

Data

  • The Undercover Brella is a lightweight weapon.
  • The matchmaking range is 118. The game's matchmaking system looks at a team's average matchmaking range value, and matches them against a team with a similar average.
  • The Undercover Brella's canopy has 200 HP.
  • The canopy takes 0.17 seconds to open.
  • The canopy does 15 damage to opponents on contact.
  • The canopy cannot be launched.
  • If the canopy is destroyed, it takes 4.5 seconds to return.
    • After splatting an opponent or assisting a teammate in splatting an opponent, the canopy will reappear if it had been destroyed, or be restored to maximum durability if it was still functional.
  • Each shot consumes 4% of the ink tank's capacity, allowing the player to fire 25 shots before needing to refill the ink supply.
  • After firing, there is a 0.67 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
    • The cooldown after holding the canopy open is 0.5 seconds.
  • When initially firing the weapon in humanoid form, the shot takes 8 frames to come out.
    • When firing from swim form, the shot takes 15 frames to come out.
  • When firing continuously, it fires a round of pellets every 26 frames.
  • The interval between firing and when the player is able to enter swim form or use a sub weapon is 20 frames.
  • When firing while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.72 units per frame.
  • The Undercover Brella fires 7 projectiles per shot. Each projectile can do between 9 and 12 damage. A maximum of 4 projectiles per shot will damage the opponent, but the maximum possible damage per shot is capped at 40.
  • If a projectile is in the air for more than 8 frames after being fired, it loses 0.1875 damage per frame until it reaches 9 damage at frame 24.
  • Shots can deviate 4 degrees horizontally and 2.7 degrees vertically.
  • Shots initially travel straight at a rate of 20 units per frame for 4 frames. Shots travel straight for 80 distance units.
    • After that, the projectile's velocity is set to 19.085 units if the projectile's velocity is not already lower than the listed value, and decreases further as it falls to the ground.

The Undercover Brella returns in Splatoon 3 and has nearly identical stats to Splatoon 2, with the only difference being its special point requirement being raised from 150p to 180p. Its kit now has Ink Mines and the Reefslider.

It appears in one mission in Return of the Mammalians:

Data

  • The Undercover Brella is a lightweight weapon.
  • The matchmaking range is 11.8. The game's matchmaking system looks at a team's average matchmaking range value, and matches them against a team with a similar average.

  • After firing, there is a 40 frame (0.67 second) cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
    • After holding but not releasing the canopy, there is a 30 frame (0.5 second) cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.

  • Each pellet has a base damage of 12.
  • If a pellet is in the air for more than 8 frames after being fired, it will lose about 0.19 damage every frame until it reaches 9 damage at frame 24.
  • The maximum damage that can be dealt to a single target per shot is 40.
    • It takes 4 pellets at 12 damage to deal 40 damage.
  • The centermost pellet hitbox has a radius of 0.25 units.
  • All other pellets' hitboxes have a radius of 0.16 units.
  • The Undercover Brella fires 7 pellets per shot.
  • Pellets fly straight at 2.0 units per frame for 4 frames, covering a distance of 8 units.
    • After that, the speed of the pellets is set to 1.9085 units per frame if it is not already lower than the listed value, and they lose 36% of their speed every frame (including the first frame after they stop traveling straight). Once the velocity decreases below a certain threshold, they will begin to be slowed less and fall faster.
  • The effective range is about 11.07 units.
    • This number may vary at different firing angles.

Sheldon's Introduction

Of all the brella-type weapons, the Undercover Brella looks the most like an ordinary umbrella. And that's no accident - the weapon was designed for stealth splatting! Getting into the technical aspects, the canopy-launching mechanism has been removed here to allow for rapid fire. The weapon can even be fired while the canopy is open! Back to stealth capabilities - you can use the Ink Mine sub weapon to help scope opponent positions before sneaking in for a splat they'll never see coming. And if you're spotted? Throw all subtlety out the window, fire up the Reefslider, and ride boldly to victory! I recommend this set to all aspiring spies, especially those who know how to walk softly and carry a big shark-based motorcycle.

Trivia

  • The Undercover Brella resembles the umbrella seen in the Kingsman: The Secret Service movie, that can shoot and protect, indicated by its name.
  • The Undercover Brella functions similarly to an automatic shotgun.
  • Prior to version 4.1.0 of Splatoon 2, Undercover Brella had the potential to deal 7 damage, which was the lowest possible damage output in the game.
  • In Splatoon 2, the Undercover Brella is tied with the Inkbrush for the lowest base special cost, at 150p, being the cheapest special in the entire Splatoon series.
  • Unlike the other brellas, the Undercover Brella does not consume more ink while being held open than if it stays closed.
  • In the Splatoon 3 Return of the Mammalians trailer[5], the Undercover Brella was seen not taking damage from the Splat Roller's attacks. This is potentially because the effect had not yet been programmed into the game.
