#0 shell is a song by Dedf1sh.

Description

This song is used before the start of every station in the Deepsea Metro, except for boss stations and thang stations. The song features a relatively short loop with features synthesizer chords which are repeated and seem to oscillate. While the chords play, some strange echoing sounds play.

In Side Order, this remix is played in the Player Settings screen. It features similar instrumentation to the original, albeit more of melody and baking instruments, along with a more fuzzy sound. Similar to #12.2 awakened, this song is at a slower tempo to the original.

Character Creation

The music used in Player Settings in the Octo Expansion has the main melody taken from #0 shell, albeit fading away every two bars. It transitions from and to Cap'n Cuttlefish's Theme (Octo) as well as sharing the same snaps, heartbeats, and shaker sounds. In Octotune, it is merged with the Player Editor theme to create one music track as アタリメのテーマ(Octo)~プレイヤーメイク (Cap'n Cuttlefish's Theme (Octo) ~ Character Creation). In the Nintendo Music app, the combined music track appears as Cap'n Cuttlefish's Theme (Octo) / Character Creation.

Etymology

In computing, many program languages will start from index 0 and not 1. A 'shell' is a place where a user can gain access to a computer's services, similar to how Agent 8 is gaining access to the tests. Alternatively, 'shell' may be read as a protective outer casing, potentially alluding to Agent 8 needing to break out of it by escaping from the Deepsea Metro.
