Against the Speedy Deletion of Entry "C.sativa"

1. The article provides accurate information in an organized fashion. I see no reason for it to be deleted, however rapidly. Furthermore, I see great reason that it should remain. The essence of the Wikimedia project is to provide a source of readily available information for anyone who has a yearning to know. And to deny entry of any potentially useful, and inherently valuable information is to deny that essence; to stymie that noble purpose.
2. Of course it shouldn't be deleted, it's a perfectly cromulent species. But it should be reduced to a standard Wikispecies page with links to the already extensive entries in various language Wikipedias. Wikispecies is not an encyclopedia.--Keith Edkins (Talk) 21:57, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

One of the four identified subspecies of the cannabis plant. Cannabis sativa is the most tropical variety, ocurring in a band roughly between 25'N and 25'S. Plants grow to ten-fifteen feet in height (with males averaging one or two feet taller than females); and display large, thinly fingered leaves called 'fan leaves'. Females grow large bud clusters at the ends of limbs; males grow clusters of pollen sacks, and aided by their greater height disperse pollen over large areas of females. Sativas occur naturally in the following regions: Mexico, Columbia, Jamaica, Central and South Africa, India, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Hawaii.

Drug Cannabis

Cannabis sativa is one of the two canabis subspecies to produce THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, a substance which, along with other cannabinoids, is valued for its psychoacitve properties. For this reason C.sativa, along with C.indica, is called 'drug cannabis', and has been widely prohibited in recent years. The bud of the female plant contains the highest concentration of THC, due mostly to the localized resin glands which produce a sticky resin rich in the compound. The consumption of drug Cannabis in sativa producing regions most usually takes the form of smoking the bud alone, as these buds contain the highest proportion of cannabinoids compared with other parts of the plant, and perhaps in part due to the open calyx structure of the bud itself, making for easy combustion. While hashish is rarely made, hash oil is less frequent yet. However, the two are both simply processed forms of the plant used to extract and produce a more pure and higher content of THC.

Cannabis as Medicine

Cannabis sativa is believed to produce less CBD and CBN, cannabinoids which act as relaxants, and thereby to have a higher concentration of THC. The resulting medicine is highly effective in treating chronic pain, anxiety, and nerveous disorders like MS. The effect is described as 'up and active' with little feeling of being 'stoned'. Further research is necessary to discover the reasons for THC's clinical effectiveness. --Kempm 22:37, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
