- Holotype: IVPP V18620, an articulated fish with head shield and trunk armour.
- Locality and horizon: Xiaoxiang Reservoir, Qujing, Yunnan, China; Kuanti Formation. Late Ludlow, Silurian, Ozarkodina snajdri Conodont Zone, 419 million years ago.
Etymology: The specific name is from the Latin primordialis (= primordial).
