- Type locality: North Laos, Louang Namtha environ, 31.v.1997, Luoang Namtha env., N21°00.3, E101°24.6, E. Jendek & O. Šauša leg.
- Etymology: The specific epithet is Latin sapphirinus, -a, -um (of sapphire) and refers to the color of the species.
