I can’t lie, I find it very odd that posts cautioning people against donating to individual* campaigns and promoting the idea of supporting mutual aid efforts and community kitchens in Gaza can rack up 10k notes–while a post promoting a community kitchen (that I can personally vouch for) struggles to get 1k notes, and has barely pulled in a couple hundred dollars over the past week.
I actively try to avoid using guilting tactics in fundraising, but this is weird to me. It’s like people are using these posts as an excuse not to do things they already didn’t want to do anyway, rather than actually taking their recommendations on board…
*In my experience, these campaigns often support large extended families their neighbours
MAQMAP is a community kitchen aiming to support families in the Mawasi Al-Qarara area.
Mohammed is planning to distribute food parcels, each containing one liter of vegetable oil, one kilo of sugar, one kilo of rice, one kilo of lentils, one kilo of pasta, and a can of sauce, to the 70 families in Mawasi Al-Qarara camp later this week.

In the last year, I’ve become disabled with a joint condition that leaves me unable to walk long distances. Thankfully, I had the privilege of being given a wheelchair for free that I can use when I need it. I can’t imagine how I would be living now without it.
So I can’t imagine how it feels for my friend @ghadaanqar and their family to go without a needed disability aide for their little girl, Iman. Iman has osteoporosis and desperately needs braces for her legs to be able to walk and function. In an already very difficult and scary situation, it pains me to know a girl that young cannot move the way her peers can.
I have been speaking to Ghada in DMs and they have been very sweet and kind. Their story speaks to me especially as somebody who has also struggled to afford medical care for a complex disability like this. If you have even a dollar to spare, please consider giving it to this family. Everyone deserves dignity and the ability to care for themselves and their disability!
They are currently at 40% funded. I know we can push it higher than that! Tagging under the cut for attention.

legit so annoyed about the way the corporate media wants to paint those women waiting outside the court as crazy and as only being there because Luigi is hot. I looked up pictures of them outside the court and they all held signs and were there to send a message: “health over wealth”, “denial of medical care = violence”, “murder for profit = terrorism”, “the United States healthcare stole my livelihood”, “insurance lobbyists line politicians’ pockets”, “healthcare reform NOW”. Yeah, they’re there because he’s hot for sure. Also, there were a lot of men as well but hey, that’s not helping the narrative right?

Sama family, once settled in northern Gaza, has faced unimaginable hardship since the outbreak of conflict on October 13
Sama, 13 years old, has suffered the horrors of war at such a young age. She is in the eighth grade. Two years ago, she left school and her education and did not study anything because of this aggression.. The family of six was forcibly displaced, moving south multiple times as they endured relentless bombing, destruction, and displacement.
The war has ravaged their lives profoundly. Their home was destroyed, and sama’s father, who owned a perfume business, lost everything—his shops and warehouses burned to the ground. The family’s struggle is compounded by starvation, diseases, and the constant interruption of essential services like electricity and fuel. The family’s situation is further exacerbated by the loss of their livelihoods and the death of numerous relatives.
Currently, they live in a tent, struggling to rebuild both their home and their means of support. Despite these overwhelming challenges, sama remains resolute in her pursuit of education and her determination to help her family recover from the devastation they have endured.
Help them collect the travel money, so that they can travel through the Rafah crossing, to Egypt to live safely and rebuild their lives again.

Please please please PLEASE keep your cats indoors right now. H5N1 (HPAI, highly pathogenic avian influenza) is zoonotic to cats, and it is just as deadly for them. Additionally, if you have a way to keep your shoes away from your cat(s), or sanitize them after being out in the world (bleach footbath for example), a little biosecurity wouldn’t hurt.
A sanctuary in Washington just lost 20 of their rescue big cats to this virus. It is not getting less dangerous for your cats this year than it was last.
It has ALWAYS been dangerous to let house cats free roam without supervision, but it’s becoming dangerous right now to be taking them on leashes if they will have access to ground birds have recently been on, or water they have accessed. Catios might be okay, if they’re covered and well-screened, but I would take a moment to subscribe to your local state ag department’s email or phone alerts for HPAI in your area, and react accordingly even for covered outdoor areas.
