In #Mogadishu, representatives from #Somalia's Federal Government security and rule of law institutions met with international stakeholders, including #UN agencies, donors, embassies, NGOs, and civil society, to discuss security and justice priorities under the new National Transformation Plan (NTP) 2025-2029. In a meeting co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister and the UNDP Resident Representative – OIC, this engagement meeting offered a platform for stakeholders to share insights, provide strategic guidance, and ensure alignment with international best practices and funding objectives. UNDP announced the support through deployment of experts from its Regional Hub in Amman to the NTP process. Collaboration will continue through mid-lab validation and daily sessions, with the goal of finalizing the National Transformation Plan by December 2024. . #Collaboration #Security #Justice #NationalTransformation

The grassroots women's movement that's changing #Somalia! "If women hadn’t taken the lead in the initial stages, the reconciliation [in Baidoa] would have never happened. I’m certain that if all parties uphold the Constitution’s 33% representation for women, Somalia will finally find a lasting peace,” says says Hindiyo Issak, Chairlady for Baidoa District Women Network. The world needs to know this side of #Somalia: how grassroots women are driving change. Fatuma Ali Iman, 33, was eight months pregnant in December 2022, when she was on the frontlines of a peace campaign in Baidoa. I spent the next three hours listening to her story, captivated--it was a thriller, truly inspiring. https://lnkd.in/dnJd8mMU EU Delegation Somalia Lionel Laurens Dr. Christopher Laker Lula Sherif Peter Nordstrom Abdallah Dardari PhD Shoko Noda UNDP in Europe and Central Asia Fadi Abilmona Zaynab Elsawi Petrit Skenderi Sophie Kemkhadze Doel Mukerjee

Fatuma’s journey, like that of hundreds of women across Somalia, is a tale of courage. It shows how a few determined women who can no longer suffer ongoing inter-community conflicts, decide to take brave and bold action. It also shows how the UN through a series of interconnected, carefully crafted interventions can empower these courageous women with knowledge, tools and ultimately confidence to make a huge difference to drive positive change within their communities. “Nobody could have imagined this kind of active leadership role of women in Somalia a decade ago. Conflict resolution, dispute handling, clan conflict negotiations, it was all men’s jobs before,” says Fatuma Ali Iman. “Now, as part of the Peace Working Group, young and old women, representatives of youth, the internally displaced, and minority groups all comfortably sit down together with men in equal capacity and play an active role in handling disputes.” https://lnkd.in/dNjkXvFx UNDP UNDP in the Arab States region UNDP in Europe and Central Asia UNDP RBAS Petrit Skenderi Zaynab Elsawi
