Competency based education (CBE) is a systematic approach of academic instruction based on students demonstrating their mastery of a subject and skills development [IBE UNESCO, 2017]. CBE focuses on what learners are expected to do rather than emphasizing on what they are expected to know [Faustin & Andala, 2019]. It is a learner centred approach that helps students get the opportunity to apply what they have learned to real life problems and make differences in their own lives. CBE ensures that the learning and teaching processes to be engaging, dynamic and aligned to the future employment needs and global economy [Kasirye, 2020]. Read more➡https://bit.ly/4e8YpCm.

Since 2020 #HADDA has been a project that I have been so proud to be a part of. My colleagues (Muna, John, Johnblack, Edgar, Caroline) and I have seen the work of Nomad Innovation Lab , SIDRA Institute and the MoH steer towards improving maternal and child health for Somalis by digitalising the health system that tirelessly serves the needs of people. HADDA has sowed the seeds of something scalable, locally anchored and evidence based which mobilizes international talent and requires long term sustainability and will surely yield results. Thank you Team NomadiLab for your exceptional technical expertise and drive and for partnering with the most driven divisions of MoH!!! Thank you Sida for trusting SPIDER’s model for programme coordination! #unitedforUHC #connectsomalia #somali #digitalhealth #coordination #inclusivedigitalisation #multisector #publichealth #MCH #sida #partnerships #innovation #globalgoods
We’re proud to have successfully completed a 3-day capacity-building training for the Federal Ministry of Health (MoH) ICT team in Somalia! As part of the RAAD system implementation under the HADDA project, this training enhances our collective ability to deliver better health information management across the country. Nomad Innovation Lab, in collaboration with our partners, we remain dedicated to equipping Somalia’s health sector with the tools and expertise needed to drive sustainable, long-term impact. The lack of government-led projects and development initiatives has left many communities in #Somalia without quality education, perpetuating poverty and limiting youth opportunities. This lack of education, particularly in coastal areas, makes young people more vulnerable to piracy. Our study suggests that enhancing educational access is crucial for empowering individuals and communities to pursue sustainable livelihoods and addressing piracy and economic challenges. #Somalia's justice sector is grappling with numerous challenges, including instability, reliance on short-term projects, capacity deficiencies, fragmentation, and a lack of a clear strategy. These issues have hindered the development of a coherent justice governance framework and contributed to a dysfunctional justice system. 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 ➡https://bit.ly/4f8r4qO.

Our study ➡ https://bit.ly/3TXVSlN found that prolonged displacement can have significant implications for the mental health 🧠 of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The loss of social support, economic hardship, stigma, and barriers to care are the main factors that adversely impact the mental health of IDPs. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness

Our paper got published with the Journal of Clinical and Translational Sciences, titled: "A schema for coding health equity scholarship within pediatric research" Our team at Seattle Children's Research Institute developed a coding schema to help systematically identify and categorize health equity scholarship in pediatric research. This tool is designed to improve how we track and elevate equity-focused work, ensuring that research reflects the diverse needs of marginalized communities. We hope this tool will help institutions better measure and increase their commitment to reducing pediatric health disparities!

It is not a small number that 26% of the nomadic people, 9% of the displaced people from the camps, and the community living in the areas controlled by Al-Shabaab have not received any vaccine. This means that almost 40% of the Somali population has not received enough vaccinations.
Despite current gaps in health and immunization data in #Somalia, three population groups were found to have a high proportion of zero-dose and under-immunized children across the country. These are nomadic populations, internally displaced people in camps, and communities living in Al-shabaab-controlled areas. Find out more about this study here 👉 🔗 https://bit.ly/3vyu2nq.
