Building capacities to conduct clinical trials in West Africa

About us

The West African Network for Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria (WANETAM) is one of the Networks of Excellence established by the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) to combat poverty-related diseases in line with the International Conference on Harmonisation Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP). WANETAM currently has a membership of 25 institutions from 12 West African countries and 5 institutions from 4 European countries. Our vision is to attain expertise in our network of West African institutions to conduct clinical trials, research and control of poverty-related diseases such as Malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. A key pillar of WANETAM’s work is to promote mentorship of younger research institutions by stronger research institutions within our network through practical skills-based training, anchored on researcher development, scientific support as well as platform and infrastructure support.
