This week, we are in Lome, Togo for a five-day #ResearchEthics training. Bringing together 18 participants from across #WestAfrica, the training is aimed at developing review capacities and capabilities of ethics review boards and committees within the WANETAM Network, harmonising policies and procedures and supporting member institutions to effectively deal with ethical issues especially during pandemics. Supported by the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership, the training will boost participants' understanding of research ethics to better support medical research including #ClinicalTrials in their various institutions and beyond.

We are pleased to have two representatives from our network institutions participating in the ongoing #HEPSANET training on Good Clinical Practice (GCP), #epidemiology and #research data collection. The training funded by Africa CDC and hosted by the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, brings together 26 participants including research clinicians, nurses, study coordinators, laboratory scientists and data managers working on hepatitis B research in Francophone #Africa. Through the training, participants will be equipped with in-depth practical understanding of GCP to support them in conducting studies and collecting high quality #data.

This week, our Coordinator, Prof. Souleymane Mboup attended a highly-level meeting on "Deepening the EU-AU Partnership on #GlobalHealth for Equitable Access." Organised by the European Commission, African Union, Africa CDC and the Belgian Presidency of the Council of European Union, the meeting was geared towards strengthening the foundation of shared ambitions of the EU & AU in Global Health, in a spirit of cooperation matched by tangible joint actions. #Africa #Partnership

Targeting Clinical Trialists or aspiring Clinical Trials Managers based in our network member institutions, the two-month training will be conducted at the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Designed to be a hands-on training, this will expose candidates to the process of conducting a trial looking into key functions required to conduct a successful trial. I am catching up on the successes of a wonderful node of excellence for research on TB, AIDS, and Malaria. I am delighted to have the opportunity to guide, mentor, and transform over a dozen African Postdoctoral fellows towards innovative research and career development. African hands and brains together for healthier lives and better livelihoods in Africa.

Science is sharing.
