0.4.04a Updates:
Bug fixes on UI and combat animations.

Two-hand polearm weapons can now do constant repeating triple stab by holding attack button during a forward thrust stage or the first light-attack chain of triple stab. This move will constantly drain the player's stamina.

0.4.04 Updates:

New models for the four armor sets (Heavy, Assault, Scout, and Caster).

New accessories:

Necklace - 

All necklaces can prevent you from death for (4~6) seconds when you received fatal damage (6~9 seconds for heavy necklace).  Takes a long time to charge its power. Also, on receiving fatal damage:

  • Heavy necklace releases several powerful AoE smash around you over time. 
  • Fighter rings release a ring of forward moving wide-slash projectiles.
  • Scout rings release a fan of fast-moving penetrating shards.
  • Mage rings release several (single-target) homing missiles with stronger damage and effects. 


Ring -

All rings will grant 80~120% damage/heal increase on the next attack when it is fully charged. Heavy rings will grant 120%~180% instead (50% more). Besides that:

  • Heavy rings also release an AoE smash around you (targets need to be grounded to be damaged).
  • Fighter rings release a forward moving wide-slash projectile.
  • Scout rings release a fast-moving penetrating shard with considerable range.
  • Mage rings release a (single-target) homing missile with strong elemental/physical effects. 

For both necklace and ring - 

Power needs to be charged after its release. And newly equipped accessories have 0 charges.

  • Heavy ring can get 5 charges from parrying, blocking or taking a hit give 1 charge.
  • Fighter rings charge every 1.25 seconds when you face an enemy at close range.
  • Scout rings charges every time you did a combo hit.
  • Mage rings are charged passively every 2.5 seconds.


Backpack -

Provides various utilities, usually expanding your item slots:

  • Heavy backpack can grant you 12-24 reinforced inventory slots that can hold 5 times of item than a normal inventory slot. But it disables your dodging ability.
  • Fighter backpack grants you two extra weapon slots, but no extra inventory slots. It also reduces your damage taken from backstabs by 12~36%.
  • Scout backpack grants you 12-24 normal inventory slots.
  • Mage capes grants you no extra item slots, but 24-72 bonus magic resistance.


Belt -

Provides extra tool/weapon slots:

  • Heavy belt can grant you 1 reinforced tool/potion slots that can hold 5 times of item than a normal slot (can still only hold one tool of course). It also grants you extra knock resistance, but it is very heavy.
  • Fighter belt grants you 1 extra weapon slots. It also reduces the knock effect you receive.
  • Scout belt grants you 3 extra normal tool/potion slots, and it also slightly reduces your stamina consumption.
  • Mage belt can grant you a magic-wand weapon slot (can only equip magic wand) and 1 extra tool/potion slots. It also slightly increases your max energy.


New UI and health bar layout:

All health bars are horizontally stacked (health, armor, magic barrier, etc...).

Player health bar UI is moved to center-bottom region.

Teammates' health bar and status are now shown on the left edge of the screen.

Player character names are now displayed both in-game and by the UI elements.


(previous version) 0.4.03 Updates:
Added all sword'n'shield and dual-swords variants. 
All weapons and items will have the following variants based on the material used to craft them:
Physical weapon variant and mechanical (repairing) weapon variant. 

Five pure elemental swords: Fire, Ice, Electric, Radiance, and Void. 

Five elemental nature hybrid variants: Magma, Arctic, Plasma, Luminous, and Entropy.

Nature variants: Wood, Earth, Wind, Ocean, Healing, Poison, and Beast.

Elemental swords are pure magical damage (melee and spells). They have good melee burst AoE attacks and valuable team support enhancing all stats related to the element of its ow.

Their natural variants are hybrid swords, melee attacks deal mostly physical damage and a little bit magical damage and effects, range attacks throw liquid substance that constantly deal magical damage and effects to enemies contacting them. These swords also provide various more generic team support and an elemental immunity shield that also has counter-attack capabilities.



Acania (will be on Steam with multiplayer)

Acania is my first 3D Action RPG game with resource gathering, base building, and smooth combat in both PvE and PvP.  It can be played both offline or online with other players.

In this build, character leveling is added. Players can now gain exp from dead mobs to level up their character, adding character attributes and learning character skills. 

This is an unofficial build to test Steam functions! The official build will be released on Steam in the future.

The future plan of the Game:

Acania is envisioned to be an open-world action RPG that focused on combat and base building. There will be storylines but they are open and not mandatory. And players will have the freedom to play the game in lots of different ways.

Early game (Player Progression):

  • Level up player character and unlock perks.
  • Develop a player's home to store items and do some basic crafting.
  • Gather followers through quests or random encounters from world exploration.

Mid game (Base Building):

  • Build large-scale player bases and grow them into vibrant communities with players’ followers.
  • Train and equip followers. Assign followers to defend the player's base and/or operate the player's facilities.
  • Find blueprints through world exploration and quests, which can unlock special materials, gears, and base buildings.
  • Extract materials to produce better equipment and weapons.

Late game (Army Building): 

  • Acquire powerful end-game technology through research.
  • Explore the game world to find and analyze ancient artifacts and unlock research points in tech trees.
  • Control resources in-game world and build a powerful army.
  • Defend player's base against strong enemy raids and fight back with powerful large war machines and beasts.

Install instructions

  1. Download the game zip file from this page and extract it onto your local disk. 
  2. After extraction, navigate into the extracted folder on your disk.
  3. (Important) Run your Steam with your steam account before starting the game!
  4. Double click “Acänia.exe” to play.
  5. In the game menu:
    1. (Will be enabled in the future) You can click "single player" button. 
    2. Or you can also click "multiplayer" button with other players on Steam.
  6. Create or join a world:
    1. If you are hosting the game, click "Create Room" button, then: 


      1. For the first time, select "create world" at the bottom left, then select game mode,  
      2.  Later, you can see and select one of your created worlds from the menu, click the one you want to play, then click "Load Selected World".
      3. Either you do i or ii, you will see a confirmation panel. If you do i, you can enter the world name. There is also an optional password setting at the top-right corner. If "Allow outside characters" are off, this world has its own player characters, your previous character cannot be used. Otherwise, both the host and clients can use their own characters from other worlds to join this world.
      4. Once you double-check everything, click "Confirm" to start the world.
    2. If you are joining other's world:
      1. You can see a list of worlds available to join, click one of them, then click the "Join Room" button on top.
  7. Create or load a character:
    1. Once you joined the world, the first thing is to select or create your character:
      1. if there are saved characters already, you can see a horizontal list at the bottom, select one by clicking it, then click "Load Character" to start playing.
      2. or if you want to create a new character, click the big " " button at the bottom-left corner, then select one of the nine races (they have slightly different attributes growth and perks), then choose a name (other customization will be added later).
  8. Start playing, WSAD to move, mouse left/right click to attack, mid click to switch between melee mode and aim mode (there are throwing attacks or special abilities for melee weapon in aim mode), shift to sprint, alt key to dodge, and space to jump. R can switch between weapon and tool, 1~6 keys or mouse scrolls can switch in between weapons or tools. F key is the ultimate power (currently set to very low cooldown for testing and experiencing). E is interactive key, and G can drop your current item (weapon or tool).
  9. Esc menu contains various game settings, and the quit game button.
