Check out this stunning noctilucent cloud! 🌌 Our Captain Vladimir Sramek kindly shared this breathtaking photo of what he and the crew witnessed while cruising over Krakow, Poland, earlier this week, around 3 AM. Noctilucent clouds are usually spotted at an altitude of 76 to 85 kilometers above sea level — much higher than regular clouds, which typically reach a maximum height of 15 kilometers. These are the highest clouds in Earth’s atmosphere and form under very specific conditions involving water vapor, dust, and extremely cold temperatures. This nature’s phenomenon can only happen in the mesosphere, as it contains very little moisture, about one hundred millionth of that found in Sahara air, and is extremely thin. For such ice crystals to form, you need a temperature below -120 °C, which is why noctilucent clouds are most often observed in summer, when the mesosphere is (paradoxically) the coldest due to seasonal changes in vertical winds. Air Explore's CEO Martin Štulajter provides the details: According to the European Travel Commission, 2024 is on track to become the year when international travel in Europe exceeds pre-pandemic levels. On the surface, this is incredible news for everyone. However, demand recovered faster than the supply chain in the aerospace sector. This means airlines need to pick and choose where to assign their aircraft. Research conducted by McKinsey suggests that Eastern European travel spending will grow at 7% annually until 2030, which is 2% more than in the case of Western Europe.
