In 2012, the studio was founded within Japan Studio, but after it shutdown in 2021, Team Asobi became an independent PlayStation studio.

Their name comes from the Japanese word "Asobi"[a] which means "play".

The studio is best know for creating the Astro Bot series starting in 2013 with the release of The Playroom on PlayStation 4.

Their most recent game is Astro Bot, which was released on PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024.[2]
