Schalkau is a German town in the south of Thuringia. Schalkau is in the district of Sonneberg, in Thuringia, Germany. It is 13 kilometres (8.1 miles) west of Sonneberg, and 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) north of Coburg.
The population of Schalkau is about 3,500. The mayor of the city is Rheinhard Zehner.
The former municipality Bachfeld was merged into Schalkau on 31 December 2019.
