Kodiak is a city in Alaska. It is one of seven towns on Kodiak Island.
The Alutiiq people were the first to live on the island. In the 18th century the town became the capital of Russian Alaska. Russia sold Alaska to the United States in 1867. Kodiak became a center for commercial fishing
