The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards Body of India under the Department of Consumer Affairs,[2] within the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.[3] It was established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 which came into effect on 12 October 2017.[4] The Minister in charge of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution also has the position of President of the BIS. BIS has more than 500 scientific officers working as certification officers and members of technical committees.[5][6]
