"Amar Shonar Bangla" (Bengali: আমার সোনার বাংলা, say: AH-mar SHOH-nar BAHNG-lah, meaning "My Golden Bengal") is the national anthem of Bangladesh.[1][2] It became of the country's national anthem in 1972, after gaining independence. the words of the song were written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1909, and the music was composed by Gagan Harkara in 1889.[3][4][5]
History
[change | change source]It was originally an ode to Bangamata (meaning "Mother Bengal"). The music is based on the melody of the folk song "Āmi Kōthāy Pabo Tarē".[6][7][8] The modern instrumental rendition was arranged by Samar Das.
