Alija Izetbegović (Serbian Cyrillic: Алија Изетбеговић, pronounced [Алија Изетбеговић]; August 8, 1925 – October 19, 2003) was a Bosnian politician, Islamic philosopher and author. He became the first president of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. He had one son, Bakir Izetbegović.

Izetbegović died on October 19, 2003 of heart disease complicated by injuries suffered from a fall at home.
