Hello, I am an editor for the main English Wikipedia. I have got a number of articles over at wikipedia to FA and GA states. I was wondering, if I would be allowed to copy and paste any of my work over to here? Obviously from the outset, the language would need to be simplified and I imagine that articles here need to be shorter? So if I change the wording slightly and trim some bits, would I be allowed to paste them over? This is something I'm particularly interested in doing for the Michael Jackson article. I work under the same user name over there, so my work is easy to find. Please contact me here or over at the main wikipedia. Cheers. Realist2 (talk) 22:04, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
I, and most other users I'm sure, use ENWP as a starting point for articles. I like to copy the basic and most important information first, simplify it, and add more details later on.
It is not a good idea to copy the whole article at one time, though, mainly due to the fact that it would take a very long time to simplify the whole thing at once. Also keep in mind that ENWP has templates that this Wikipedia doesn't, and the same goes for images.
It can also be as long as you want, as long as it follows our MOS.
Good luck! --Gwib -(talk)- 22:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

After threatening to not "F with me" [2], he says that he can threaten whenever he wants, and that he wants to threaten me. [3] Is this harassment meriting a block? I'm especially sensitive to him threatening to not "fuck with me" alexandra (talk) 18:34, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
He has been warned, and has stopped for now. Another violation would lead to another warning or two before a block is enforced. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:44, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
His second attack came after you warned him. alexandra (talk) 18:51, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Often, admins wait two or three times to warn again, since you don't always check out that merry 'New Messages' bar to make a new edit
If you still think he deserves a warning, use {{uw-npa2}}, {{uw-npa3}} and {{uw-npa4}}. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:10, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Pakistan articles
What to do about these? It would be a lot of wikifying for not much info. - tholly--Talk-- 17:19, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
What I would do is to check them out on google, see how many hits they get and tag/not tag depending on results. Shall we work together and clear them out according to notability? Basically, articles like Cedrus deodara are notable, wheras others are not. We can't nuke the contributions. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:20, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I'll just qd the non-notable ones. What about Fauna of Pakistan - not exactly a creature/plant, but a general term. - tholly--Talk-- 17:29, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
[4]. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:29, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
The thing is, the article has very very little content - it just says they exist. - tholly--Talk-- 17:31, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
So do most of our shortest pages (e.g. Objectivism). --Gwib -(talk)- 17:40, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but this shows even less information. The only reason there is notability on the web is because of the types flora and fauna, not because it is there. Also is same as Flora of Pakistan. - tholly--Talk-- 17:47, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
(unindenting)Happy now? :P. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:55, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion
Hey, I noticed you deleting some articles. May I help? Just tell me what to do, Sir Gwib. :) – RyanCross (talk) 22:39, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Mr. Cross! Could you go over Category:Tehsils of Pakistan and check them all? It's easy, if they have an IW link, keep them (until further notice). Otherwise DELETE. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:41, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
What category are you looking at anyway? I'm not sure where you are getting these pages from. – RyanCross (talk) 22:45, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
This one. I've cleaned it out, after finding about 24 articles with no 2nd party sources (i.e. interwikis). Other articles still lack notability, but have iw links and so have yet to be discussed about notability issues. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:48, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
I fixed your two "not notable" fauna's. Palla's Cat is actually Pallas' Cat. The species name gets about 12K hits and articles on 24 seperate wikis. Easier to find if the creator actually spelled it correctly.. Moved the article, added iw's and infobox, and got it into its correct cat. (cat.. its in the cat cat.. ) The other Lak-something frog was the same as one of the other already listed articles. Just redirected that one. The redirect target still needs taxo and probably the addition of the redirects name somewhere in there. -- Creol(talk) 02:19, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm glad I was able to clear out those river and mountain cats. I was surprised to see you and Chenzw had already deleted some, but they had been recreated. Something needs to be done about the Teshils and Districts though. Jurgen says most have an IW link to ENWP, so how should we go about purging them? Stubs? G-Hits? --Gwib -(talk)- 08:59, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I feel like Hitler, separating the 'Aryan' articles from those unworthy of interwikis!
Don't Lisy Island to show notability? He-he, learn geography and(or) don't be rusophobian; 5 interwikis. You aren't the Owner of simpleWiki. Let restore it. --Pauk (talk) 07:13, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
A .5 km2 island with no population and no listed history.. none of that information says why it is notable. Looking at en:wp, there is no statement of why it is notable. Looking at ru:wp, we get a little history which might warrant a stub, but none of that information is in the article. The deletion was in keeping with our policy. -- Creol(talk) 08:34, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
A user has created this cat, and put every page from the sub cats of Category:Football leagues in here. Shall I get my bot to remove the cat again? - tholly--Talk-- 14:53, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't think it's particularly necessary to have that category, but you might want a second opinion from someone who knows more about football leagues. --Gwib -(talk)- 14:55, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm fairly sure it's completely useless so I'll go ahead. It's this user who's creating an article about every single football league there ever has been, but with no real information other than the football table. I've filed an RfD for one lot but he keeps making more. It's a bit irritating. - tholly--Talk-- 15:05, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
K, good luck and watch the bot for errors. I'll check out the pages and see if they can be expanded/deleted. --Gwib -(talk)- 15:06, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry.
I would like to apologise for yesterday on #wikipedia-simple. I feel that I have abused the community's trust in me. After all, had I not sent him the link to IRC, he would not be able to attack you and others on the channel. Although I knew that he disliked Wikipedia, I felt that, if he met the people that were behind Wikipedia, he would prehaps stop taking the mickey out of me editing Wikipedia, as he would know that all we are trying to do is do something amazing -- giving away a free encyclopaedia. I should have known that prehaps he would get offensive, and maybe I erred on giving him the link to Simple English Wikipedia's IRC channel. Sorry, and please forgive me. If you have any suggestions on what I should do next, please say so. Yours, Microchip•talk 12:26, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Indian Sign Language
Eventually we will have articles on every sign language, so why remove it when it will probably be added again? alexandra (talk) 18:44, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
When we have several articles on the appropriate topic, appropriate categories can be created. But until then, a category containing one article should be avoided. I usually try to delete cats with less than 2 articles contained within. If you want, create another article on sign language? --Gwib -(talk)- 18:48, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Gwib, I have created the page Alkaloid today (probably needs simplifying). Gwib, when you warned Static here, why did you say he attacked? I don't get how saying "blah, blah, blah" is attacking. I don't like what he's doing (I understand the discussion and all), but I don't see why you warned him. Explain? Thanks -- American Eagle (talk) 00:27, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Agreed it was more of a breach of w:WP:CIVIL (note the ENWP link, we have nothing but WP:NPA here), but his constant immaturity, impoliteness, all caps (i.e. shouting) messages and overall unhelpful attitude towards anything in general grouped up into a {{uw-npa1}} template. Had he continued (as he is now on his own talk page) being immature and rude, I would without hesitation add a {{uw-npa2}} or {{uw-npa3}} to his {{uw-npa1}}. --Gwib -(talk)- 01:01, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
That I fully disagree with. An attack warning is for attacks, not saying he's retiring or "blah, blah, blah." If you do warn him for the same reason, I'll remove it. He's done nothing inheritly wrong. -- American Eagle (talk) 01:11, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
"If I do warn him for the same reason"? I've already warned him. Isn't that why you're here... --Gwib -(talk)- 01:25, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
If you warned him with {{uw-npa2}} or {{uw-npa3}} as you said you wouldn't mind doing, then I would remove at. Bottom line, he's done us no harm, and he has full right to vanish (Wikipedia:Right to vanish), there is no need to warn him. -- American Eagle (talk) 03:31, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
"He's done us no harm".. I could argue that point.. but I'll take the high road. -- Creol(talk) 05:17, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Hola
Hello there Gwib! I have missed talking to you for the past few months, and I hope that you have missed me :). I just wanted to say that I am back now and that I will be editing on this site somewhat often (just not too often, as I have lots of other things to do on the computer as well :P). I am amazed to see that you are on your 12th archive :). You are catching up to the number of archives that I have :). Cheers, Razorflame 16:47, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
I have, I even made myself a little reminder (I copied tholly) that you were back. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
!_! You really know how to make a guy feel good about him/herself :). Great job. Very nice desktop background, BTW. :). Cheers, Razorflame 17:35, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Also, just because I was curious, I found out that the percentage of all the Simple English Wikipedia articles that have been created that I have created is 7.5% :). Cheers, Razorflame 17:41, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, SEWP is soon at 40,000 articles. If you hit your 4,000th article before then, you will have got 10% of the articles here. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:44, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Nah, I don't plan on creating that many articles. I believe that I will have made my 3,250th article by the time we reach 40,000 articles, if not more. However, I can guarantee you that I will not reach the 4,000 article mark by the 40,000th article mark. I just don't want to spend that much time on this site. I should reach the 3,250 article mark, and maybe the 3,750 article mark. Cheers, Razorflame 17:46, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

RE: WikiProjects
Ok, thanks!
(Still, I think if they are on there they should be Project space... or if not in a "Under Construction" area or something?!?!)
There was an attempt, MC08 created an account called User:Project. This grouped all the Wikiprojects together and would have been moved to the mainspace, but interest was lost. Bring it back up on ST if you want to get people's attention again. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:41, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. I'll see if I can revive it once i've done with my DYK proposal, which, by the way, is almost complete at User:Bluegoblin7/DYK.

(1) Great work (2) This may be odd but since you've made such a huge overhaul of the article, it no longer meets the criteria of stability (i.e. last few edits are typos etc) to be VGA... would you consider it a useful exercise to reapply for VGA? It doesn't resemble the article which was promoted in any way. Just wondered what you thought? The Rambling Man (talk) 18:44, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
I'll add a bit more, maybe fix some sentence structure or typos. Then reapply. You'll most likely miss it, what with your rambling family taking a bumbling trip fumbling along somewhere. But I hope you enjoy yourselves and thanks for all the pointers! With a bit of luck, we'll have a DYK section and an overhaul of general criteria upon your return. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
I hope so too. It'll fly through another PVGA, I just think since it's so drastically (and positively) different from the version promoted, it can't do any harm to us to make its re-election transparent. I'll be in touch as we go along! All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:26, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Just a question, should the song names (under Electric Ladyland, Axis:Bold as Love etc) be collapsed or not? --Gwib -(talk)- 20:35, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
I think it's a moot point. It shouldn't matter either way in my opinion - put it back at PVGA and see what others think? I think you expansion is so significant that the article would be best served by going through the process again. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:25, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Abbreviation for 'Other websites', since I added {{commonscat}} and {{wikiquote}} to the "Other websites" section. Your edit summaries are muchmorefun to read than mine :P. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:39, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Re:DYK
Yes, it probably is at the moment, but it's nowhere near finished. WP is way to complicated. I'm all for simplification!
If you have any ideas, I do want to hear them!!! I don't want this to be a one man thing!
Yep, i'm getting round to removing most of those things. I personally was thinking:
The Hooks (T:DYK)
Rules (WP:DYK)
Noms (T:TDYK)
Discussion (WT:DYK)
Archives (WP:DYK/A)
But maybe that's going to far?
I'm also looking for a simple way of updating... if it was on the Main Page would it be protected or not? (If not I can bot it, or else i'd have to get a BRfA, that probably wouldnt pass as i'm not an admin!)
Anyone can edit the main page on Simple, as long as they are autoconfirmed. By the way I was the one who proposed having a DYK section a while back so I'd be happy to help out. FSM Noodly? 15:11, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
(ec)How do you mean? And yes, that would work as well. So 5 for a week? Currently there are 25 that randomise, but i agree that 5 each week is not only easier to update but easier to find! As for main page, do you mean WP:DYK? That's my current thing i'm working on.
if you wanna talk it through in "real time" im on IRC.
Gwib, I think mvojg the rules to another page is over complicating it. I think it needs to be all on one page, because then you can also see it when you make the nom. Just a thought. BG7even 18:17, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey Gwib. You mentioned that you didn't like how most of Bluegoblin's DYK pages are copied from en.wikipedia. I wanted to start out WP:DYK from scratch like you suggested, so I started it at User:RyanCross/Wikipedia:Did you know. You are welcomed to help out. Thanks! – RyanCross (talk) 18:32, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Good idea, I'll look forward to seeing it! Best case senario, we can take the best from your DYK, the best from his DYK and merge them into an ultra-DYK. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:58, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Also, I have a suggestion. I think there should be a next update. If there wasn't any and an editor would just move hooks to T:DYK, what if the editor only moved a few at a time? If you have a next update, you can update T:DYK all at once. Moving hooks one-by-one is the best thing to do to make sure you're not making a mistake, rather than moving it all at once. What do you think, Gwib? – RyanCross (talk) 19:00, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
I discussed this a bit with BG7 and Eptalon on IRC. Basically, what happens (and feel free to correct me or find a better way, you're the most accustomed to DYK here) is that
5 hooks are taken, displayed for 1 week
Removed for the next 5
With our level of activity, we might not have 5 in store, thus, the present hooks are left there until we get 5 appropriate ones.
The 'next update' box is to control huge amounts of activity (i.e. ENWP), but if we just operate with changing them once a week, it should make things simpler and give us time to come up with new hooks. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:05, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
I think DYK should updated anytime there are 5 other appropriate hooks ready to be moved to T:DYK. That means it could be once or twice a day, once a week, etc. But the hooks must at the least stay on the main page for 6–12 hours. Thoughts? – RyanCross (talk) 19:08, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Interesting thoughts. You've basically taken the thoughts right out of my head, but instead of a week, shortened it to a day... It's probably better to have a shorter period of time. Go right ahead, make what you've just said clear, concise and simple and chuck it into the DYK rules. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:12, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
SF's talk page
His talk page doesn't need to be protected. Everyone needs to just settle down and talk this over. Hes been warned with a block, and this is more appropriate. Synergy 19:43, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
I didn't want reputations tarnished, as the users continually removed, re-added, removed, re-added. The 3 hour protection is giving them all a change to settle down and talk this over. Thus, it should stay protected until the settling down and talking this over has been done. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:46, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Generally no one can talk this over if his talk page is protected. I thought his ip was blocked, and I was about to just say nevermind, as I seen he isn't going to stop and listen to anyone after creating his userpage with foolishness. Synergy 19:47, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
There are other places it shouldbe talked about, certainly not on his talk page. To be honest, he's more trouble than he's worth (what's he gonna do when he reads that, kill himself twice?), but I doubt he really has commit suicide. Discussing controversy is best kept away from the controversial area it started in. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:50, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Talk page protection should come last if he is blocked, is what I meant. In any event, I suppose he still has e-mail enabled, so expect a few. (Long onto IRC). Synergy 19:52, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Meh, blocked is different from 3RR. Sorry though, can't go on IRC atm, going to bed early (have football tomorrow and I'm tired). I'll update myself on what happened tomorrow. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:56, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Oh wow, this is a big deal? I guess I missed something. -- American Eagle (talk) 19:49, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Nope. He hasn't commited suicide. He's being immature by faking it. Shapiros10 Flap the Yap 19:55, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. And he admits it. American Eagle (talk) 19:58, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Drama
No worries. I came into this one late (as usual) and think that Matilda's offer along with probation is by far the most appropriate deal. But as you say, get it while I can! Three days and counting. But be advised - I'll be back...The Rambling Man (talk) 21:18, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Left a curt message on Kennedy's talk page. I think we've got enough going on at ST for it to spread to user talk pages... Why do I think of Arnie when you say "I'll be back"? --Gwib -(talk)- 21:19, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
How long do you expect to be away for? FSM Noodly? 21:27, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
I'll be back late March next year, all things being equal. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:29, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Long journey! I'm doing a round the world trip when I'm older, fingers crossed. Good luck on your trip! FSM Noodly? 21:31, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Oh wow, 4 months! God bless you in that time, and have fun! -- American Eagle (talk) 21:35, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks all. I'll do my best to take care, have fun and go with good luck! I look forward to letting you know how I'm getting on! The Rambling Man (talk) 21:35, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Talk pages or ...?
With ref to your addition to Kennedy's talk page and the suggestion I was beating a dead horse. When I raised it at the community talk page as far as I know it was the first time it had been raised in the community forum. Judging by Kennedy's reply he doesn't "get it" - his apology is muted and that is why I raised it with him personally. He doesn't have to reply but I think he needed it spelt out in a way I didn't do on the Simple talk page. Personalizing and confirming the message is not beating a dead horse. --Matilda (talk) 21:46, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Alright, we don't usually get huge conversations and disagreements here (note little archives of WP:AN, but when we do, they always explode out of shape and size, everyone knows about them and everyone has their own opinion. The message you left on Kennedy's page was not only unnecessary, but questioning his maturity and abilities.
You'd already left a similar message on ST, it's up to Kennedy to 'get' the messages and mend his ways, but leaving another message telling him all the things he's done wrong again - as if leaving one in front of everyone was not already enough - is cruel. It has no purpose, it serves only to break up relationships.
Hypothetical scenario time!:
On your talk page
Gwib: "Matilda, I saw you'd added incorrect categories to this article, please try to watch what categories you add. They're rather important!
Matila: "Sorry Gwib, won't happen again."
Goes to ST
Gwib: "Matila left incorrect categories on an article, I want to ask people to watch her contributions and see that she doesn't make any mistakes again, thanks! Her apology was short and muted, so I thought it would be best to raise it over here with you guys.
Basically, what I'm saying is that leaving two messages saying the same thing isn't needed. It's insulting and serves only as a reminder that he's done something wrong. --Gwib -(talk)- 05:10, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
simple talk
I didn't know where to put the comment, Eptalon suggested Simple Talk, and as for logging the chat, I clicked the log off before I copied it to paste it, so I could not post the whole thing. I often forget something in logging the IRC (I was doing webchat, and it was a long conversation). — Jonas (talk · proposal) 21:54, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps it's a symptom of an over-reliance on IRC. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. IRC is bad news. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:56, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
I should at least log the thing, and stop using IRC. I get angry when I forget to log it and post. But I did log User:Jonas D. Rand/Gwib conversation. — Jonas (talk · proposal) 22:01, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
IRC is fine for an informal chat, but as you say, relying on it doesn't work. Majorlytalk 22:03, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Block template
Hello, Gwib. You recently blocked User:Kkkkkkjkjk indefinitely as a vandalism-only account. However, the template you used indicates that s/he was blocked temporarily. IMO, the right course of action would be to warn the user about the vandalism first, and the username. If you want to leave it at indef, the correct template would be {{Uw-block3}}. — Jonas (talk · proposal) 05:35, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Nevermind, RyanCross (talk·contribs) has already deleted the message. I did not want to, as it would be changing your comments, but a trusted user has already removed it.
Thanks for the notification, sometimes my monobook gets the better of me. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:03, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
A favour?
Hi Gwib,
Can GoblinBot (talk·contribs) be unblocked please? Seeing as i'm now blocked and the ToTW needs updating?
IRC is a no go, send me an e-mail if you like? --Gwib -(talk)- 15:06, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the unblock and undelete Gwib, much appreciated. Does GoblinBot have Auto-Confirmed status now? In which case Template:Totw can be semi-protected...
Ok, will do, i'll send one later today if I get chance. Oh and thanks for your input on the whole thing earlier...
Hello Gwib. Thank you for your welcome note. I just started to look around at this Wikipedia. I am not sure what I can do here yet. Some articles sound like they are for grownups and some articles sound like they are for children. I can write for children because I am one, but I think it is hard to make the same article good for grownups and kids. Teenly (talk) 20:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
NYON
edit the nyon page! :D Hayleytalk 22:39, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
It's a positively orgasmic article. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:50, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Isn't it just? I think so. ^^ You absolutely must call. And also, really, what should I do to improve my positively orgasmic article to make it more orgasmic? So orgasmic you could include it in your Sexuality Project? Hayleytalk 22:53, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
