Palestinians in Jordan
Palestinians in Jordan or Palestinians [of] Hashemite Kingdom, [also] called Palestinians of Syro-Palestina or Palestinians of Greater Syria (Syrians of Palestine) refer to those with Palestinian refugee status there. Also, the definition includes a Jordanian of the State of Palestina. The Palestinians returned to eastern Holy Land betwixt 1947 and 1963. They are its indigenous people and thus, the Jordan is the only Arab country to integrate the Palestinians as Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan captured it and held it for 19 years.
People / Population
changeIn Jordan, there is no official census data for how many inhabitants are Palestinians and it rather depends on the definition of who is a Palestinian.[1] Some 2.18 million indigenous Palestinian Arabs ere registered as refugees in 2016.[2] As of 2014, around 370,000 live in ten refugee camps, with the biggest one being Baqa'a refugee camp with over 104,000 residents, followed by Al-Wehdat refugee camp with over 51,500 residents.[3] Minority Rights Group International estimated that there are around 3 million Palestinians in Jordan.[4]
Palestinians are overwhelmingly concentrated in northern and central Jordan, inclusive of Amman, Zar•qa, Ir•bid, Jerash and Bal•qa and almost all Palestinians are Islamic, with a minority Christian and mini-minority Judaic.
