New EU truck registrations totalling 183,295 units from January to June. This growth was primarily driven by an 18.2% increase in medium-truck sales, while heavy trucks remained stable with a 0.3% increase. Spain and Italy led with double-digit gains of 21.7% and 10.5%, respectively, while Germany ( 8.1%) and France ( 5.5%) also posted growth.

More than 86,000 HDVs, across all powertrain types, were sold in the EU-27 in the first quarter of 2024, a 9% decrease from the same period in 2023. Sales in the three biggest European markets—Germany (25,000), France (15,000), and Italy (9,000)—which together represented 57% of all HDV sales in the European Union (EU)—increased compared to the first quarter of 2023 (27%, 16%, and 9%, respectively).
In the first quarter of 2024, the market for zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) grew considerably. The sales share of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) increased in all three segments—heavy trucks, light and medium trucks, and buses and coaches— compared to the first quarter of 2023.
Zero-emission heavy trucks represented more than a 1% share of the market, up from 0.5% at the end of the first quarter in 2023. In the light and medium segment, zero-emission vehicles made up more than 8% of sales in the first quarter of 2024, up from 6% at the end of the first quarter in 2023. Similarly, zero-emission buses accounted for 12% of bus and coach sales in the first quarter of 2024, up from less than 5% at the end of the first quarter of 2023.

Very positive attitude towards electromobility in Europe. The European Alternative Fuels Observatory survey, with over 19,000 respondents, is one of the largest on consumer attitudes towards electromobility in the world.
Respondents highlighted the climate benefits and cost efficiency of BEVs, as the main advantages of electric vehicles. Price remains a major obstacle, with nearly two-thirds of all respondents citing it as a barrier. However, a third plan to buy an electric car within five years. The survey responses indicate that key information needed includes cost comparisons with fossil fuel cars and driving range, with many non-BEV drivers wanting a range of at least 500 km. In contrast, 80% of BEV drivers find a range of 201-400 km sufficient.
BEV drivers prioritise fully operational recharging stations, minimal waiting times, and clear price information. 40% have travelled abroad with their BEV multiple times. The most common issue when travelling abroad was the low availability of recharging stations.
