Urbis joined Aria Property Group's annual Tree Planting Day to help mark their largest endeavour yet; to plant 10,000 native trees and plants in one day in the koala habitat area within Brisbane's Bulimba Creek catchment. Our team were so proud to work together to help protect our planet with lasting, actionable steps for our environment. As a carbon neutral certified organisation by Climate Active, the most rigorous and credible carbon neutral certification available in Australia, we are committed to making a lasting and positive impact on the environment. Urbis congratulates Aria, and all the attendees, for their initiative to keep our city green and combat climate change as they work with Brisbane City Council to hit their ultimate goal to plant 100,000 new trees and plants by 2032. After his keynote, Property Council of Australia Queensland Executive Director Jess Caire moderated the panel discussion between Frasers Property Australia CEO Cameron Leggatt, Pikos Group CEO Michelle Wooldridge, Brisbane City Council Civic Cabinet Chair of City Planning and Suburban Renewal Committee Cr Adam Allan and Mirvac Project Director Catherine Atkinson. Join us in acknowledging Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year celebrated over two days and the beginning of the High Holy Days period. Rosh Hashanah is a time for personal reflection, rejuvenation, and the celebration of life's creation. Traditions include the sounding of the shofar (a ram's horn) and enjoying symbolic foods such as apples dipped in honey to symbolise hopes for a sweet new year. As we observe this time, let's connect with our colleagues, friends, and family, wishing each other 'Shanah Tovah' - a prosperous year ahead.

The benefits of creating social value extend beyond individuals and places. When people feel safe, supported and connected to the built environment, our broader society benefits. At Urbis, we're advocating for the whole-of-industry to consider the long-term social value that can be created by addressing equity issues upfront and designing for social value creation through the built environment. Congratulations to Urbis Director Glen Power on his appointment to the role of Queensland President at Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA)! Glen was endorsed by the Executive Committee to this new role having been the Vice President since July last year. Now, stepping into the role of President and succeeding Tessa Leggo, Glen is committed to continuing the work of his AILA Executive. “As an advocate for our profession I will continue to drive the growth and recognition of landscape architecture in Queensland. I am eager to build on the strong foundation the AILA Executive has laid, and with their support I am confident we can shape a future that honours our past and embraces the opportunities of tomorrow,” Power said. Glen specialises in greenfield residential developments, resorts and waterfront revitalisation, with a particular interest in parklands and playgrounds. His most recent work at Urbis includes the design of the newly opened $22m Archerfield Wetlands District Park and various high-profile projects such as the Future South Bank Master Plan, Rockhampton Botanic Gardens and Zoo Redevelopment and the 2024 AILA QLD award-winning Victoria Park / Barrambin Shelters and Furniture Suite. Glen’s passion for creating energetic, family-oriented landscapes is what drives him to create high-quality, functional and innovative designs and we can’t wait to see more to come from Glen and his role as Queensland President at AILA.
