More than 1,200 industry leaders and tech experts from across the Asia Pacific region gathered at this year's NCS Impact in July. Technological innovations took centrestage, with discussions focusing on how we could harness its potential to 'change the game' in different aspects of our lives. During a 1-on-1 conversation session on sustainability, Mr Boon Heong Ng, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Temasek Foundation, shared about philanthropy's role in a '3P' partnership (between Public, Private and Philanthropic) in scaling innovation to catalyse impact. "We provide philanthropic capital which is limited but can act as risk capital to push boundaries and pilot innovative solutions. Governments and businesses through policymaking and follow-on funding can mainstream and scale them for impact so that wider communities can benefit." For example, Equatic.tech has received support from 3P partners to build commercial plants to remove carbon dioxide from seawater in Singapore and North America, after a successful pilot in partnership with Temasek Foundation. We are actively working with 3P partners to catalyse more solutions and address challenges in sustainability and other sectors. #NCSImpact2024 NCS Group

Temasek Foundation signed an MOU with our key partner Yayasan BUMN, as it celebrated a significant milestone to relaunch itself in July 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia.   This MOU seeks to strengthen our collective philanthropic efforts to implement transformative programmes that are scaled and sustained for maximum impact. It includes deepening cross-sector partnerships and support for insightful research and innovative solutions that foster a healthier future and mitigate the impact of environmental challenges.   With Yayasan BUMN, we will look at providing holistic support for maternity care and child health – from pregnancy to early childhood (till 6 years of age) which is crucial as it contributes to a child's optimal growth and development, lasting throughout his/her life. We congratulate Yayasan BUMN for the transformation to address critical areas in public health and environmental sustainability, and will be actively exploring ways to do more together to benefit our communities. How do you navigate failures and successes? How do I shape my own leadership style?   Over 60 students across ASEAN countries asked these thought-provoking questions and more in a fireside chat with Amrin Amin, Temasek Foundation's Head of Corporate Development last Friday (12 July) at the Temasek Foundation-National University of Singapore Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking (TF-NUS LEaRN) programme.   He shared candid views on staying true to your calling and navigating through life: "Embrace both setback and success — they’re like seasons. Don’t get too used to either, and don’t become a different person with every changing season, remain consistent — that’s the difficult part because you may change, and people around you will change and treat you differently, especially when you have money, rank, or something they want. Stay steady and humble, be yourself — try."   The TF-NUS LEaRN programme is part of our efforts to nurture the next generation of Asian leaders through leadership development, cultural exchange, and networking opportunities. We hope the session inspired these emerging leaders to bring positive impact to their communities!

In collaboration with Temasek Foundation, the PREPARE-TF READI series connects clinicians, scientists, and policy makers in the region through workshops. This partnership is named READI – Research Engagements and Actions for Diseases caused by Infections – to focus on various areas of pandemic preparedness and response. At the third workshop on wastewater and environmental surveillance, Dr Fook Kay Lee, Head of Project Office at Temasek Foundation, spoke on how Temasek Foundation’s impact intent in #PandemicX can contribute towards improving pandemic preparedness through enhancing surveillance regional partnerships, collaborative action, and innovative solutions. The workshops are key in discussing the strategic role of wastewater surveillance in pandemic preparedness and early detection of pathogen mutations and zoonotic spillovers. Close to 80 alumni from Temasek Foundation youth programmes based in Indonesia recently reunited over breakfast in June, reconnecting with friends and forging new connections. The event featured a lively panel discussion with H.E. Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination from the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investments of the Republic of Indonesia. Bapak Rachmat shared valuable insights with youth participants on business philosophies and the importance of understanding cultural nuances. Jomthip Chareonsri, Director of Youth Programmes at Temasek Foundation, also highlighted the importance of adaptability for young people to secure jobs in the digital age. We hope our youth alumni will continue to build strong networks, learn from diverse perspectives, and shape their paths towards future success! “Public, People and Private partnerships play an instrumental role in building social resilience.” — Joanne Ng, Temasek Foundation’s Senior Director of Community Networks and Partnerships   One such instance was during COVID-19. At the Total Defence 2024 Convention, Joanne shared about Temasek Foundation and partners’ collective efforts in the nationwide distribution of essential items such as masks, hand sanitisers, oximeters, and mouth gargles.   During COVID-19, we also strengthened ground-up movements supporting different communities through the Temasek Foundation OSCAR Fund, with funding as well as programme design guidance. Some recent ground-up projects include The Saturday Movement providing meals and community support to over 500 beneficiaries, Queenstown community volunteers creating a dementia wayfinding mural, and #Abam2Van organising haircuts for boys at Muhammadiyah Home.   To further support the development of the ground-up movement, we co-created a resource and collaborative platform Building All Groundups for Success or BAGUS Together with Tote Board and NVPC - Towards a City of Good.   We’re proud to play our part along with all our partners in enhancing community readiness and resilience!   Photo credit: Ministry of Defence of Singapore   #TotalDefence #TD40 #Community #Resilience #Partnership

A thriving and well-connected ASEAN region can multiply impact.  This is why Temasek Foundation has been striving to co-curate programmes with partners in the region to drive greater impact. One such programme is the ASEAN Prize, in close partnership with The ASEAN Secretariat, since its inception in 2018. At the recent ASEAN Prize Symposium 2024, James Chan, Senior Director of Programmes on Resilient Societies, said, “Temasek Foundation has been supporting the ASEAN Prize to recognise and honour outstanding individuals and organisations for their contributions in building a people-centric, inclusive, and resilient ASEAN.”  Some of the recent ASEAN Prize recipients were also present to share about their inspiring journey in shaping a robust regional community.  Photo credit: ASEAN Secretariat

Rain or shine, the Temasek Foundation family went all out to volunteer our time at two local social enterprises – City Sprouts and Cloop – that drive meaningful #sustainability causes. City Sprouts rejuvenates new urban spaces and develops community-driven programmes to inform, educate and support action on social and environmental issues. We helped out at their Sensory Garden and also contributed to their Community Compost Pile and Vermicomposting Bin. Cloop is a circular fashion enterprise. With all hands on deck, we sorted around 800kg of recycled clothing to help close the circular fashion loop. These pre-loved apparel were collected from over 400 recycling bins nationwide. Together with colleagues from ABC Impact and Temasek Trust Asset Management, we’re grateful for the opportunity to play our part in driving collective impact for a greener planet! #TFCommunityDay #urbanfarm #reuse #upcycle #recycle
