The annual Drone Odyssey Challenge took flight at the Centre this week. This year's theme "Drones for Good" challenged students to utilise drones to address future challenges and promote technology for positive impact. Budding coders from primary to tertiary schools programmed drones to navigate obstacle courses and complete missions. Teams honed technical skills and strategised to overcome challenges requiring coordination, creativity, and critical thinking. These real-world scenarios focused on social and environmental issues, helping students appreciate how emerging tech can create solutions for problems in sectors like farming and security. Congratulations to all participants for showcasing your outstanding innovation and problem-solving skills! Thank you, EP-Tec Solutions Pte Ltd, Association of Drone Soccer Singapore and Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE) for joining us on this venture to elevate young minds and help them soar. Earlier this week, the Centre hosted an inspiring dialogue session with Dr. Alan Russell and Dr. Wallace Torres from Amgen as part of our celebrations leading up to the milestone of reaching 1 million students through the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE). Upper secondary and tertiary students engaged with these industry leaders, asking thought-provoking questions about career paths, work-life balance, and the future of science in the age of AI. The session, moderated by our Chief Executive, Associate Professor Lim Tit Meng offered invaluable insights into the world of scientific innovation. Dr. Alan Russell's guiding philosophy of “Love science, Learn continuously, Laugh at yourself, and Labour hard” resonated deeply with the young audience, emphasising the importance of passion and positivity in scientific pursuits. Complementing this, Dr. Wallace Torres wisely noted that the path to success is "non-linear and filled with many detours," offering a grounded reflection on life's journey that everyone could relate to. We’d like to thank our partners Amgen Singapore Manufacturing and Amgen Foundation for working together with the Centre to bring this meaningful dialogue session to fruition as we strive to empower the next generation of STEM innovators. #ABE1M #AmgenBiotechExperience #Amgen #STEMeducation #sciencecentresg #Youths #amgensingapore To learn more about ABE in Singapore, visit: https://lnkd.in/gEaS9tHu Partner with us in our STEM journey: [email protected]

As part of Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore (MSE)’s Go Green SG— a national movement to rally the community towards sustainable living, the Centre organised two innovative initiatives. At the "Game to Go Green" activity, guests could play board and card games exclusively developed by the Science Centre to generate awareness about food sustainability and food security. For the "Plastic Playday" activity, guests were encouraged to bring clean and dry plastic recyclables. They learnt to sort and treat plastics for recycling and also tried their hand at converting plastic "waste" into useful plastic filament, using plastic filament for 3D pen activities. Thank you MSE for creating this platform to engage the community and help foster a deep understanding of environmental responsibility. Together, we can embark on a transformative journey to create a greener future. In partnership with Micron Foundation, the Centre conducted The Micron Chip Camp for Girls - a three-day camp for aspiring young girls, aged 13 - 15 to explore STEM in the semiconductor industry. Throughout this initiative, the girls engaged in hands-on STEM activities and interacted with engineers to better understand the application of microchips in everyday life. To cap off this exciting camp, they were also given the opportunity to visit Fab10A, Micron Technology ‘s latest wafer fabrication facility on the last day. Through collaborations with like-minded organisations, the Centre will continue to encourage diversity and inspire young women and girls to pursue a career in STEM.
