Safe Food for all

About us

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) was formed as a statutory board under the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to oversee food safety and food security from farm-to-fork. The SFA brings together food-related functions carried out by the former Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore, the National Environment Agency and the Health Sciences Authority. As the lead agency for food-related matters, SFA’s mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore. SFA works hand-in-hand with the industry and consumers to grow our three “food baskets” – Diversify import sources, Grow local, and Grow overseas, as well as ensure food safety from farm to fork. SFA also partners food businesses to strengthen capabilities, tap on technologies to raise productivity, undertake research to develop new lines of business, and catalyse industry transformation to ensure food security. Cigarette butts, soiled masks, soda cans, and half a pair of slippers 🚬😷🥤🩴   More than 70 SFA officers went litter-picking around Jurong East. Our colleagues at the @Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, @National Environment Agency (NEA) and @PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency also spent the afternoon doing the same, concurrently, near the Environment Building at Scotts Road.   Keeping Singapore clean shouldn’t just be the job of our hardworking cleaners. Singapore is our home and all of us must do our part too!   #YearOfPublicHygiene #CleanSG

I am Ng Jun Wei and I am part of the Planning and Organisation team. Within my division, I am involved in shaping SFA’s corporate planning processes/events, monitoring the enterprise performance and risk indicators and reviewing our organisation’s resource management framework. I am delighted to be part of the planning team, as it offers me the opportunity to contribute to shaping SFA’s strategic direction in fulfilling its mission of ensuring a secure and safe food supply for Singapore. This role also allows me to collaborate and better understand the work of other parts of SFA. I have had the privilege of leveraging various developmental opportunities that have enhanced my growth and capabilities to help me better execute my role. These opportunities include training courses, on-the-job training by my supervisors and corporate presentations to external stakeholders and counterparts. Through these experiences, I have not only acquired new skills and expanded my knowledge, but the opportunities also enabled me to take on new challenges and advance my career with SFA. #MSEFamily #OurSustainabilityOurResilienceOurEveryday

SMS @Koh Poh Koon recently went on a study trip to China, together with our SFA colleagues, exploring the vibrant aquaculture industry in Hainan and Guangdong provinces. They visited commercial fish farms, fish broodstock, and hatchery facilities, met industry executives and learned about their efforts in breeding, hatchery technology, fish nutrition and disease control. These insights would be valuable for the development of the Singapore Aquaculture Plan, so that we can transform Singapore's nascent aquaculture industry into a sustainable, thriving one! #aquaculture #foodsecurity https://lnkd.in/gk4CANmp

Watch to find out how the ground deployment exercise for the new Visitor Management System was carried out at Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre (PPWC).   This exercise enabled us to gather user feedback and make necessary adjustments for a smooth rollout with minimal disruption to PPWC’s operations. As a key distribution point in Singapore's food supply chain, such systems support contact tracing and enforcement efforts while preparing us for future emergencies and pandemics. Let's work together to enhance food safety and security! #foodsafety #foodsecurity

Meet Francesca Ong from SFA’s Risk Assessment & Communications Department! After graduating with a Masters in Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) from NUS, she now works in our labs at the National Centre for Food Science, where she researches on novel foods, unapproved food additives and GM foods to ensure that the food is safe for consumption. She also frequently conducts presentations on food safety to the public and industry leaders in Singapore. Do say hi to Francesca if you see her at one of her food safety sharing sessions!
