In the article “How South-East Asian countries can cooperate to enhance energy interconnectivity”, Ratnesh Bedi, Asheesh Sastry and Toong-Yuen C. emphasised the importance of energy interconnectivity within ASEAN for a sustainable transition. ASEAN’s diverse energy landscape is characterised by the uneven distribution of resources. While some initiatives around fostering electricity and gas interconnectivity have shown progress, significant challenges remain, such as financial constraints, infrastructure gaps and the need for regulatory harmonisation. The authors highlighted the synchronous grid of continental Europe as a key learning for the region. They further stressed that achieving a robust cross-border power infrastructure and ensuring affordable clean energy for all ASEAN members require collaborative efforts from governments, private sector entities and international partners. RGE was named a ‘Champion of Good’ by NVPC - Towards a City of Good for our commitment to holistic impact in Singapore during a conferment ceremony at Raffles City Convention Center. Over 400 distinguished guests witnessed the milestone in NVPC’s COG Recognition System, marking the first year companies are assessed under the enhanced framework that goes beyond traditional metrics on corporate giving and tracks an organisation’s progress and impact across Corporate Purpose and five impact areas, including People, Society, Governance, Environment and Economic.   Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat Keat graced the event as the guest of honour, conferring ‘Champions of Good’ recognition to a select group of organisations. RGE Executive Vice President Benny Lee accepted the award on behalf of RGE, which was recognised for its breath and depth of impact including staff volunteerism through RGE Founder’s Day and RGE ‘Golden Hearts,’ supporting the arts through donations to Gardens by the Bay and the National Gallery Singapore, as well as a range of sustainability-focused partnerships including the Singapore Fashion Council.   Commenting on the recognition, RGE Vice Chairman Bey Soo Khiang said: “By embracing Corporate Purpose, we align our organisation with a higher mission, driving meaningful impact beyond profit. ASIA SYMBOL announced the launch of its seventh annual sustainability report. The year 2023 witnessed significant progress in extending Asia Symbol’s industrial chain. Faced with the uncertainty of the macro environment, the company persisted in advancing investment and operations in projects in China responsibly and sustainably.   In 2023, Asia Symbol reinforced its dedication to climate and nature by introducing a suite of new policies. These policies, including sustainability, wood and pulp sourcing, human rights, and anti-corruption and bribery, provide strategic frameworks that solidify our commitment to zero deforestation and responsible resource management, aiming for positive impacts on ecosystems and people.   In 2023, Asia Symbol took a pioneering role in leveraging the financial markets to fuel its green transformation. Through innovative carbon finance and sustainable finance transactions in China, the company significantly advanced its high-quality development. As a leader in carbon-neutral paper and paperboard products in China, Asia Symbol (Shandong) and Asia Symbol (Guangdong) invested in energy-saving facilities, including a natural gas power plant, fresh alkali recovery furnaces, and additional photovoltaic power station. Notably, Asia Symbol (Jiangsu) became the first domestic paper mill to achieve zero wastewater discharge, a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship.   In 2023, Asia Symbol’s employees contributed nearly 24,073 hours of volunteer service. The company community initiatives directly benefited 247,913 residents, including 16,147 students. United by a shared purpose, Asia Symbol remains steadfast in creating value for the Community, Country, Climate, Customer, and the Company.   Find out more about the Asia Symbol 2023 Sustainability Report here: https://lnkd.in/gvj-tci   #sustainability #sustainabilityreport #sustainablebusiness #circulareconomy #carbonneutral #bioeconomy #renewableenergy #sustainabledevelopment #achievements

RGE’s business groups operate based upon the 5Cs business philosophy, which means that everything we do must first be good for the Community, Country, Climate and Customer, and only then will it be good for the Company. The 5Cs have led to the creation of innovative and far-reaching initiatives that deliver a positive impact on climate, nature and communities around the world. Woodfibre LNG recently set a North American first by establishing a formal, comprehensive plan to protect both workers and community members, entitled the Gender and Cultural Safety Management Plan, which is the first-of-its-kind in the Canadian resource industry. This work stemmed from acknowledging the history of industrial development in Canada and its impacts on Indigenous communities, with a particular focus on women. #SquamishBC #GenderSafety https://lnkd.in/gq2JwVya

The Chinese textile and apparel industry emits about 230 million tonnes of greenhouse gases annually, accounting for about 2% of China’s and 2.8% of its industrial carbon emissions, according to a recent report by China Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC). As the world’s largest manufacturer and consumer of apparel, it is heartening to witness the growing recognition within the Chinese textile industry on the urgent need for environmental action. And as the world’s largest producer of viscose, Sateri has developed a comprehensive low-carbon development strategy, and undertaken emission reduction actions, such as increasing the use of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and promoting low-carbon clean production. These efforts are an integral part of our Vision 2030 goals. We are honoured that CNTAC has recognised our endeavours. In addition to being one of the pioneering supporters of the “Fashion Climate Innovation 30·60 Carbon Neutrality Acceleration Action Plan” initiative, we have been featured as a showcase in the progress report for outstanding achievements in carbon reduction. This progress report, consisting of the industry’s carbon emission performance and case studies, was produced by a team of 66 individuals and reviewed by a panel of 12 subject-matter experts. Being acknowledged as an exemplary case serves as a testament to Sateri’s commitment to sustainability. We will continue to support national green development policies, and collaborate with industry players to transform and drive positive change in the textile and apparel sector. #sustainablefashion #sustainabledevelopment #carbonneutrality #climateaction #textileindustry #viscose #lyocell #rayon #nonwoven
