I used to think that everything I achieved was just a matter of being “lucky”—in the right place at the right time. While this made me grateful, it also held me back from taking risks. I was afraid my luck would eventually run out. It took a friend to tell me: 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. This simple switch made it much easier for me to become an entrepreneur! When I started Podium, I attended loads of big networking events. To increase my chances of being “lucky” and find new insights or connections. But I often found these events draining and noticed that many others felt the same—awkward and exhausted. On July 20, Meltem, Alka, and I are taking a softer approach. We’re hosting a “Gentle Networking” morning for working women in Singapore. It’s a chance for us all to create our own luck, in a more enjoyable way. Participants will answer a few questions, and our team will use their responses to curate personalised matches. The best part? No one will have to struggle to find things to talk about.
