Earlier today, we conducted our annual Decontamination Exercise to assess our preparedness for handling mass casualty incidents involving hazardous materials (HAZMAT). These efforts are crucial in ensuring we are ready for emergencies. The objective is to improve the quality of life of children with asthma and/or other allergies through excellent clinical care, education, advocacy, and research. Dr Pauline Chan is a Consultant, and Prof Hugo Van Bever is a Senior Consultant from the Division of Paediatric Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology, Department of Paediatrics, KTP-NUCMI.

NUH turns 39 today! 🥳 Since our opening in 1985 with just 150 staff, NUH has grown into a hospital with more than 9,000 staff today. The hard work and unwavering dedication of our people form the backbone of our commitment to deliver incredible care for our patients. Many of our staff started their careers with the hospital and have stayed through the years. Hear from some of them on the bonds they have forged and what keeps them going.

Congratulations to this year’s National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Award winners!   Each year, the NMRC honours outstanding clinician scientists/researchers for their achievements and contributions to better healthcare outcomes. It also serves as a platform to showcase ongoing research, NMRC-funded projects, as well as for networking and fostering collaborations amongst healthcare institutions and academia.

From Pathfinder, which provides real-time insights into waiting times and bed occupancy rates, to CalSense, which is used to consolidate, process, and visualise the results of patients’ blood tests, these are some of the AI-driven tools that NUH has implemented to streamline operations and elevate the standard of healthcare, serving patients with improved efficiency and effectiveness. We are happy to have Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore), join us at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Mirxes and Thermo Fisher Scientific last week. We look forward to working with our partners to develop and validate advanced, next-generation sequencing (NGS) genomic testing solutions and cancer research specific to the needs of the Southeast Asian population. The NGS tests offered at NUH Diagnostic Molecular Oncology Centre (DMOC) @ Biopolis now allows for multiple biomarkers to be analysed simultaneously, allowing patients to be matched with more suitable therapies in a shorter time.

NUH clinician-scientists were involved in a groundbreaking telesurgery trial! Prof Jimmy So remotely performed a gastrectomy on a simulated organ in Japan. This innovative approach aims to improve surgical outcomes, enhance training opportunities, and widen access to specialised care, marking a significant advancement in global healthcare collaboration.
