  • #MPA is thrilled to announce our collaboration with Microsoft to boost innovation, cybersecurity, digital and green initiatives in the maritime industry. Together, we are embarking on a journey to harness technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and robotics to drive positive change within the maritime sector. One of the key focus areas of this collaboration is the trial use of AI and digital twins to optimise vessel route planning to enhance safety and reduce carbon emissions as well as reduce vessel turnaround times in port. Additionally, MPA and Microsoft will train and upskill maritime workers to effectively implement these innovative solutions. As part of our broader efforts to strengthen cyber resilience, MPA will explore synergy with Microsoft to support early detection of cyber threats, enabling companies to undertake timely actions. Further, we will leverage existing Microsoft products and co-develop digital solutions to support small-and-medium enterprises by aggregating demand and improving energy efficiency for shipping and port operations. • Energy Market Authority (EMA) and #MPA have shortlisted two consortia that will proceed to the next round of evaluations of proposals to provide a low- or zero-carbon #ammonia solution on Jurong Island for power generation and bunkering.   The two consortia leads are Keppel (Infrastructure Division) and Sembcorp Industries Ltd - SLNG - Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd, and the bunkering players in these consortia are ITOCHU Corporation, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) and Sumitomo Corporation. Both consortia were selected out of 6 that were earlier shortlisted in 2023 to participate in a restricted Request for Proposal (RFP), following an Expression of Interest (EOI) called in 2022.   The two consortia will proceed to conduct engineering, safety and emergency response studies for the proposed Project.   At the next phase, one of the two bidders will be selected as the lead developer of the Project. They will develop the end-to-end ammonia solution comprising: 1️⃣ generating 55 to 65 MW of electricity from imported low- or #zerocarbon ammonia via direct combustion in a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine; and 2️⃣ facilitating ammonia #bunkering at a capacity of at least 0.1 million tons per annum (MTPA), starting with shore-to-ship bunkering followed by ship-to-ship bunkering.   Read more about the joint release here: https://lnkd.in/gXXiYmuX #MaritimeSG #decarbonisation #sustainability #netzero

  • Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced the release of the "Transforming the Singapore Economy” report by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) at the Singapore Apex Business Summit. The report, covering the period from 2016 to 2023, highlighted the significant progress and performance of Singapore's economic sectors, including Sea Transport.   Sea Transport is one of the sectors that remained resilient during COVID-19 and amidst geopolitical trends. Supported by a strong tripartite partnership among industry stakeholders, unions, and government agencies, the sector not only navigated the challenges of the pandemic but emerged stronger from 2020 to 2023. Guided by ITM, the sector registered real value-added (VA) and real value-added per worker (VAPW) growth of 3.8% p.a. and 4.1% p.a. respectively from 2016 to 2023. These achievements highlighted the sector's robust performance in value-added and productivity. From 2020 to 2023, the industry remained resilient throughout the pandemic and recovered strongly post-pandemic. The Port of Singapore continued to strengthen its connectivity and efficiency, enhancing its position as a trusted port, and strengthening our value-add as an international maritime centre. Singapore’s container throughput reached a new record-high of 39.0 million TEUs in 2023, surpassing previous record of 37.6 million TEUs in 2021. Singapore continues to be well-connected to the rest of the world despite supply chain disruptions. The Report not only showcases our transformational efforts but also outlines the future priorities for Singapore’s economic agenda. We are grateful for the unwavering support of our stakeholders and partners. As we move forward, we will continue to work closely with our partners to invest in the industry, enhance our competitiveness, and achieve greater milestones for Maritime Singapore. Deputy Prime Minister at Prime Minister's Office, Singapore

Pleased to launch the “Transforming the Singapore Economy” Report earlier today at the Future Economy Conference and Company of Good Conference, part of the Singapore Apex Business Summit organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF).   The report chronicles the contributions of many stakeholders to our economic transformation over the past 8 years – including members of the Future Economy Council.  Through our 23 Industry Transformation Maps, we achieved real value-added growth, higher labour productivity, and increased wages to improve lives and livelihoods. We have together grown the overall economic pie for Singaporeans, even through the COVID-19 pandemic.   I fully agreed with the theme of this year’s Summit — “The End of Business As Usual”. To be ready for the future global economy, we must be prepared for change and to change.   In the next phase of our industry transformation, we must leverage science, technology, and innovation. Not just in schools and laboratories, but also in every aspect of our businesses. We must also ensure that all workers benefit from future growth, by strengthening tripartism, redesigning jobs and reskilling workers.   We must also remain open to the world, expand our regional and global partnerships, and continue to collaborate with like-minded partners, especially in future growth areas like the digital and green economies.   My thanks to SBF for organising this 3-day conference. I hope more businesses here will draw inspiration from conference and the report’s insights to join in the next bound of growth and transformation and build a better future for all!   More details are in the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gb58d2gJ.   Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) (MDDI Photos by Kenneth Tan)
