𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 2.0 (SN2.0) charts Singapore’s way forward in a digital world. It sets out enduring goals to guide our responses to digital risks and opportunities, so that we become #SmartNationSG that we can trust, help us grow, that keep us together. Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative has progressed significantly over the past decade since its launch by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 24 November 2014. With Smart Nation 2.0, we are focused on using technology to improve the lives of citizens and foster a thriving digital economy for businesses and workers. As one of the world’s busiest ports, Singapore requires digital capabilities to ensure a swift and smooth transition from incidents back to normalcy so as to ensure safety of navigation in our port waters. The A.I.-based 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐂3 (𝐈𝐏𝐎𝐂) 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 was developed by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in collaboration with Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), aimed at enhancing incident management and safety enforcement capabilities through sensemaking features. The IPOC system integrates multiple data sources, advanced A.I. and machine learning tools to detect anomalies and support real-time decision-making during incidents. Its common situation picture enhances coordination between MPA and key stakeholders in the #maritime community and public agencies. The system allows stakeholders to mark out specific operational areas and have oversight of assets of interest so that incident managers can track, deploy and monitor resources in real time. Beyond incident management, the IPOC system also functions as a safety enforcement tool for our Port Inspectors’ daily routine operations. The IPOC system has been progressively phased in from mid-2023 and was showcased as part of the launch for 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 2.0 at the new Punggol Digital District. MPA remains steadfast in the next phase of our #SmartNationSG journey, and will work together with our research institutes, industry and unions to seize new growth opportunities with more products using generative A.I. to help #MaritimeSG stakeholders be more competitive globally!

Deputy Prime Minister at Prime Minister's Office, Singapore

Work never stops at Tuas Port, which will be the world’s largest fully automated port when it is completed in the 2040s. A fleet of driverless Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) operates 24/7, transporting containers efficiently and creating a seamless operation that resembles a game of Tetris — though in reality, it is far more complex!   An innovative command centre oversees the AGVs, using real-time data and PSA Singapore’s proprietary algorithms to enhance operations and maintenance. This advanced system boosts efficiency, productivity and safety, and helps the port meet evolving global supply chain demands. To promote greater sustainability, Tuas Port also incorporates green technology and renewable energy solutions such as charging infrastructure for the AGVs to reduce carbon emissions.   Glad that PSA’s partnership with Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and others in our research ecosystem is further advancing innovations in digitalisation and sustainability, contributing to broader sectoral transformation including the Maritime Singapore Green Initiative.   Well done to PSA for setting new benchmarks in port automation and decarbonisation! Leveraging science and technology can advance port operations and position Tuas Port well to strengthen supply chains, reinforcing Singapore’s vital role as a node in facilitating maritime trade and global connectivity. • In commemoration of #WorldMaritimeDay, some landmarks around the world will light up in blue, joining the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in its annual event to unite the maritime community and recognise the vital role of shipping. 🌊🚢🌟 This year, #MPA has partnered with The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, which will be illuminated in blue tonight! The Fullerton Hotel holds a special place in Singapore’s maritime history. Its prime waterfront location along the Singapore River is deeply tied to the nation’s development as a major port and global shipping hub. Atop the building once stood the Fullerton Lighthouse, which guided mariners into Singapore's port in the 20th century. Today, it stands as a symbol of Singapore’s rich maritime legacy and iconic skyline. This year's theme, “Navigating into the Future: Safety First!” also marks the 50th anniversary of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) – a key treaty in IMO’s maritime safety regulations, reminding us of the importance of #maritimesafety in the age of emerging technologies. Catch the light-up from 7:30 PM 💫 to midnight and join us in wishing a Happy World Maritime Day to all maritime professionals! #MaritimeSG
