About us

Fabrica AI is creating a future where ideating and developing a robot for any task takes days, not years. We believe that by training end to end controls in simulation with reinforcement learning and above that iterating hardware designs, we can automate the whole development process. To validate our approaches for our AI system and to collect data, we invented an automatic tile grouting robot that boosts productivity by up to 5x and are piloting it on construction sites in Singapore managed by Woh Hup, BHCC, Gin Chia, Soilbuild, Chan Rong Fen, and Dragages. Tile grouting is the process of filling up the gaps between tiles after the tiles have been laid. We invented a patent pending robot that is able to automatically grout and clean tile gaps with only a press of a button. We’ve raised over 2.3m USD from Hoxton Ventures, Credo Ventures, our Professor from Cambridge, and the owner of BHCC (listed construction company). We’ve 2500sqft of space in Singapore where we have over 20 team members, and 400sqft of space in Czechia where we have our software team.

Building a startup is never easy, but Fabrica AI's Keefe Wayne Teo, Jakub Suchánek, and Ronald Luc took on the challenge at 24, in the middle of a pandemic, and as first-time founders! 👷♂️🤖 With the goal of improving productivity in the construction industry, the team developed an autonomous tiling robot that boosts productivity by up to five times. Despite early challenges and setbacks, their idea turned into reality - their tech is now being piloted in construction sites across Singapore. ➡️Swipe to read about how these young entrepreneurs are making their mark!

Most people don't know this, but Singapore spans 2 climate zones. The temperate zone of an office and tropics everywhere else. Problem arises, when you develop the robot in the office, and then first come to a construction site. Initial deployments of any outside robot have to be finetuned. We've been lucky to have Woh Hup (Private) Limited as a research partner for our point-solution, the Grouting robot. The access to their constuction sites is invaluable. What did we learn so far? Main differences: - Higher humidity and temperature results in changes to grout behavior - Grout settles faster (by 20 to 100 %, depending on type) - Different sites both use different materials and have different requirements on the finish of the grout Thankfully we've been testing it on site in some capacity from the very early prototype. We have a quick-load system. It enables us to flip between nozzles in seconds. The other day I came to the site with 16 different nozzle variants, tested them all within an hour, collected feedback and had the "winner" design the very next day that satisfied the exact requirements at the specific project. We approach Fabricator development the same way. One cannot hope to develop a platform for 100x speed up of robotics development without constant contact with reality (aka deployment). The only difference is, to develop research heavy deep-tech idea like automation of robotics development, learning on a weekly basis from an external robotics company won't cut it. You have to codevelop the core with Hardware engineers and roboticiscs at hand. And the best thing? Customers of the point-solution (the Grouting robot) will subsidize the data and research engine.

We've got our grouting robot optimized for higher room coverage. Using reinforcement learning, we've jointly researched what's the optimal placement of the extruder for filling the gaps between tiles and what is a good width to length ratio of the grouting robot. The results were quite clear: - Push extruder as much to the site as possible - Aspect ratio does not change much We've applied the changes in the new design of the grouting robot. The extruder position could not be moved all the way to the right, so we moved it as much as possible. This gave us ~7 % larger room coverage when grouting flats in Singapore, almost for free. Next we'll answer questions about drivetrain and sensors: - Is there better coverage if we use mechanum wheels? What would be the impact on average grouting speed? - What is the impact of using less precise tank belts that can climb stairs? - What will be the impact of the quality control system we're thinking of implementing? Should we even develop it? - Is there a better placement for our cameras? What high level robotics questions have you dealt with?

What makes an internship meaningful? 🤔 For Soon Yee Ho, Jalen Mateo and Joshua Nick Tan (Josh), it's the opportunity to apply their technical knowledge to solve real-world challenges. 🌍🪛 Working at Singapore-based startup Fabrica AI allowed them to lead projects while being immersed in the engineering product development process from start to finish. 🏁 💡 "Everyone is a passionate engineer or maker. They want to be able to have their ideas come to real life." - Josh, Year 3 Engineering Product Development student, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) 📺 Take a sneak peek into the life of a Summation apprentice!
