Did you know elephants can be tool-users—and even pranksters? 🐘 At the Berlin Zoo, researchers observed an elephant named Mary using a hose as a showering tool, gripping it strategically to wash her body from trunk to back. Mary even adjusts her technique depending on the hose’s weight, demonstrating an impressive level of skill. But Mary isn’t alone in this routine—another elephant, Anchali, has found a way to disrupt Mary’s shower time by clamping and bending the hose. Anchali even devised a clever trunkstand technique to block the water flow, showcasing a behavior that surprised researchers, who saw it as possible “pranking” between the elephants. These remarkable interactions underscore elephants' problem-solving abilities and hint at social dynamics that could be more common than we think. #AnimalBehavior #ElephantConservation #Zoology

Spoiler alert: Monkeys won’t be writing Shakespeare anytime soon! 🐒 A new study in Elsevier’s Franklin Open debunks the famous ‘infinite monkey theorem,’ showing that even if all the world’s chimps typed non-stop for the lifetime of the universe, Hamlet and Macbeth would remain safely human creations. With a mere 5% chance of even typing ‘bananas’ in a lifetime, the dream of Shakespearean primate playwrights is statistically improbable. This fascinating mathematical exploration underscores the limits of probability when faced with the realities of time and scale. #ScientificResearch #Mathematics #InfiniteMonkeyTheorem
