EDP Renewables APAC is building a 250kWp rooftop solar PV system atop Nouryon’s production facility in Singapore’s Jurong Island. Construction will begin soon and we anticipate the system will be commissioned in early 2025. This partnership is more than just green electrons; it’s about our joint dedication to environmental protection. Our multi-year Power Purchase Agreement underlines our commitment to long-term sustainability. Indeed we are not just harnessing the power of the sun – we’re taking decisive climate action. Last week, Đính NGUYEN-PHAN, our Vietnam Country Director, and Phuong Nguyen Quang, our Head of Centralised Generation Asset Operations, spoke at the Solar & Storage Live Vietnam 2024 conference. They shared insights on the evolving energy policies in Vietnam and the collaborative efforts needed to drive sustainable development. Our spokespersons also highlighted the key role of financial institutions and innovative funding mechanisms in unlocking the full potential of Vietnam's solar sector. In APAC, supporting markets in their transition to renewable energy remains at the heart of our mission. At the recent Reuters NEXT APAC conference, one of the key discussion themes was how the APAC region can seize upcoming opportunities in renewables amidst policy, economic, and geopolitical barriers. Miguel Fonseca, our APAC CEO, contributed to this insightful dialogue. APAC drives over two-thirds of global electricity demand growth, yet it also accounts for 40% of global emissions. Accelerating renewable energy adoption is crucial for decarbonization and combating climate change. This necessitates cohesive policies and regulatory frameworks to meet carbon neutrality targets and ensure financial sustainability for renewables. We are strong advocates for renewables in the energy transition, fostering a clean and sustainable future while bolstering energy independence — fundamental pillars for geopolitical stability and future prosperity. There is strong momentum towards renewables, underpinned by our shared commitment to climate action in this pivotal century. And this is the heart of where we direct our energy and drive. EDP has launched the Hope Fund, a programme that will support social impact projects in Portugal, Spain, and Latin America that are dedicated to guaranteeing a fair and inclusive energy transition. In collaboration with Ashoka España and Bridge for Billions, selected projects can receive up to €500,000 in funding, giving these social entrepreneurs the opportunity to develop their solutions and access to mentorship.
