Community GTM Ops | Helping creators and teams build, monetize, and grow their community.

I went on vacation 🌴 but forgot my Kindle 😲... So I did want anyone would do and transcribed and indexed more community content for my AI-powered search engine, Cai! I know how to party 😎. Anyway, I added all the fab talks from CMX Summit 2024, season one of Clare Sutcliffe MBE's amazing podcast Bunch, as well as Helena Brandist and Elena Avramenko's podcast Community Unlocked. Along with all the industry reports by the Community Roundtable folks, too. What's Cai? It's a community AI search assistant. There's tons of great community advice buried in podcasts, videos, newsletters, and reports that aren't searchable. So I sourced, downloaded, and transcribed thousands of them and trained an AI bot on it all. You can ask it questions and it'll direct you to the best resources. Harnessing the full potential of community is no easy feat, yet it's pivotal for achieving success. According to CMX, while 79% of us recognize the value of community, only 10% can link it to tangible financial outcomes. 💡But there's good news—industry-leading frameworks are available to help us define and quantify this value. Reach out to discover how these tools can empower your business to leverage community for growth and success. 📈 #CommunityValue #BusinessGrowth #CMXInsights #StrategicCommunityBuilding #DesigningCommunities

While empowerment is vital, strategy is the backbone of a thriving community. The challenge lies in crafting a strong, thoughtful strategy that aligns with your vision while giving members the freedom to innovate. Without clear objectives and a plan to support and guide the community, growth can stagnate. The key is balance: strategic direction ensures long-term success, while empowerment fosters organic growth and creativity. Building a powerful community means both shaping the path and stepping back to let others lead. 🎯🌟 Jono Bacon #CommunityLeadership #Empowerment #StrategyMatters #CollectiveImpact #GrowthMindset #DesigningCommunities

🎉 What The Fail, a vibrant community focused on reshaping how we view failure, recently celebrated its 1-year anniversary with a compelling event featuring a panel of community and ecosystem builders. They shared their honest experiences and challenges in community strategy, offering some key insights: 1️⃣ Linking community efforts to business outcomes can be tough—community-building often requires patience and a give-first mindset. 2️⃣ Investing in the wrong community members can be costly. 3️⃣ Community formation and engagement can vary widely, presenting unique challenges. 4️⃣ Digital engagement requires a balanced approach—our community's attention is split between personal and professional channels. 5️⃣ Remember, events alone do not make a community strategy! ➡ Point 5 highlights a common misconception in Asia: Events alone don’t build communities. While they create buzz, true community-building needs ongoing engagement, meaningful interactions, and sustained value. Without a broader strategy, momentum fades, and relationships stay shallow. Successful communities foster trust, connection, and a shared purpose. These reflections highlight that while community-building has its hurdles, it's undeniably the future. 🌟 #CommunityBuilding #CommunityStrategy #WhatTheFail #Community #Insights

"What were some of the biggest fails you have experienced while building out your community strategy?" As we celebrated What The Fail 1st Birthday...one thing was for sure, the heart of this community are our guests who come up to share candidly about their brushes with failures, whether it is in their personal or professional life. And that meant, we never hold back from asking tough questions and our guests step up to share honestly about what they are going through. Shout out to Jinkyo Choi from Next Challenge Foundation, Daryl Chung from Jumpstart Disruptive Innovations (JDI) for representing challenges they have faced while building out an ecosystem strategy. John T. from Tin Men Capital who is changing the way venture builders are thinking about their community strategy, and Sangeetha Selvaraja from Singapore Product Design who shared about a community-first platform. Some quick take-aways: 1. The challenge in community/ecosystem led strategy is in linking what we do to the bottom line of the company. And sometimes there is no immediate pay-off from the labour and resources we put into this strategy. Community is a give-first, and reap-later play. 2. Investing your energy and resources into the wrong people in the community can be a bad bet 3. The way communities form can be different, and so the challenges that comes with the community building and engagement can be tough 4. When it comes to engagement of community on digital channels - we need to be kinder to ourselves. The Attention of our community is spilt online between personal and professional channels ...we need to take a step back and ask ourselves, is it necessary for success metric to reflect that they are "talking" 5. Last but not least, EVENTS ALONE IS NOT A COMMUNITY STRATEGY And on a personal level, perhaps the fail that united most of us was that when we do community or ecosystem related work, a lot of our personal and professional time and relationships get blurred. We often suffer from burn out and our health can get impacted. John also shared recently (and wrote a more in-depth post on this on his page) about how he is more afraid of success than failure! What if it all goes well and it scales? What then?! What an interesting thought to ponder on! There were so many questions that came up that evening, we will continue to host more community-led strategy workshops and meetups. Community is the future. Thanks to Draper Startup House and Vikram Bharati for hosting us in your cosy venue. The vibes were just perfect for creating the atmosphere for everyone to feel cosy. And Teri Elizabeth from Singapore Global Network for partnering us and championing the ecosystem efforts. We also launched our podcast channel on Spotify! First 5 episodes are out, and the next 5 are coming up :) Stay tuned for more fun variety of show. PS: we are looking to raise some sponsorship so that we can invest into better editing and distribution.
