When 1 in 6 people rely almost entirely on global trade to be fed, it’s crucial that our agricultural trading system operates under rules that ensure inclusivity and equity. By putting the WTO’s rules-based system at the core of food trade, innovations can reach the hands of farmers who make the most of them to improve food security for all. Learn how better trade = better food security. It’s time to pick your side 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8G6pTgj G20 Brasil 2024 #G20Brasil #G20Brazil #PickASide #SideWithFoodSecurity

Today is International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, a reminder of the significant impact our actions have on the environment. Reducing food loss during pre-and post-harvest through #plantscience innovations, as well as reducing food waste as consumers will help improve food security and ensure a more sustainable world. #foodloss #foodwaste #sustainableagriculture #agriculture #farming #FLWDay

🌏🌱 With International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste fast approaching, let’s learn about Food Loss and how it can be prevented and mitigated. Food loss refers to all food produced for human consumption but not eaten by humans. ➡ During pre-harvest, food loss can occur as crops compete with weeds, insects, nematodes, fungi, bacteria and viruses which in turn cause crop diseases that damages the crops and leave them inedible. ➡ To prevent pre-harvest losses, crop protection tools such as pesticides can be used by farmers as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Strategy to protect crops from pests and diseases. Without pesticides, food production would be affected, and the resulting food loss will affect food prices. Food losses can also occur post-harvest. ➡ For example, almost half of all fruits and vegetables produced are lost due to mechanical injury and decay between harvest and market. Rodents, insects, and pathogens are also responsible for food grains losses especially during storage. ➡ Improving infrastructure, transport and storage systems and processing facilities can help mitigate post-harvest losses. The use of pesticides post-harvest can also ensure the quality and quantity of produce during storage. #foodloss #foodwaste #FLWDay #agriculture #farming #sustainableagriculture #plantscience

CropLife Asia was honored to partner with the #ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology & Innovation (COSTI) - Sub Committee on #Biotechnology (SCB), the ASEAN Genetically Modified #Food Testing Network (#GMFNet), The ASEAN Secretariat, USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), US-ASEAN Business Council, ISAAA Inc., and the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (#MABIC) to conduct the 2nd ASEAN Gene Editing Workshop ('Gene Editing Regulation and Prospects in ASEAN). #ClimateChange is bringing not only more droughts and floods for regional #smallholders to contend with, it's also leading to more pests, weeds and diseases - wreaking havoc on ASEAN food production. #GeneEditing #technology that can help Southeast Asia's smallholder #farmers mitigate these impacts and drive more #sustainable #foodsystems in ASEAN is a game changer. #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #Innovation #Sustainability
The 2nd ASEAN Gene Editing (GnEd) Workshop, titled 'Gene Editing Regulation and Prospects in ASEAN,' took place from 10-11September 2024, at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia. The workshop convened representatives from the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology & Innovation (COSTI) - Sub Committee on Biotechnology (SCB), the ASEAN Genetically Modified Food Testing Network (GMFNet), and key industry stakeholders. Partners included the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Mission to ASEAN, U.S. ASEAN Business Council, CropLife Asia, ISAAA, MABIC and ASEAN Secretariat. Experts from Japan, Australia, Canada, and the private sector discussed crop improvement technologies and policies. The workshop highlighted the need for strong regulatory frameworks to unlock gene-editing's potential in agriculture and reinforced ASEAN's commitment to science-based, trade-friendly biotech policies, supporting sustainable agriculture and food security. #GeneEditing #ASEAN #Biotechnology #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #Innovation #SustainableDevelopment

Our global food systems are a remarkable achievement. Consider this: in the last six decades, crop productivity has soared by 138% using only 15% more land, while the world population more than doubled. Now is the moment to build on this progress, further enhancing productivity through advanced and resilient technologies that can help feed the world while protecting the climate and nature 🌿 We can improve our food systems with innovative technologies. 🌱🍞Wheat and Gene Editing🔬 #Wheat is a staple in many diets across the world and the grain is the source of close to 20-percent of the calories consumed worldwide. Wheat flour is used in breads, pasta, pastries, breakfast cereals, crackers and noodles. However, products made from wheat flour are high in gluten which means that those who restrict gluten in their diet need to find an alternative. Researchers at Kansas State University are using innovative methods like gene editing to breed wheat with added benefits, including lower gluten options that could allow people with gluten sensitivities to enjoy bread and other wheat-based foods.
