The final session of a three-part Roundtable series on the Future of CBDs study was conducted by CLC and Arup at the World Cities Summit2024. This roundtable expanded the conversation on CBD rejuvenation to stakeholders from around the world to obtain global perspectives on how cities are reimagining their future downtowns. The session was represented by 21 city leaders and industry experts from cities across the world from Glasgow, Mumbai to Sydney. It also built on the newly launched e-report titled "The Future of CBDs: Perspectives from 6 APAC Cities", which consolidates findings on common challenges and aspirations for future CBDs from six cities in the Asia Pacific region, namely Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. The insights from this roundtable captured in these illustrations will help supplement CLC’s ongoing research on how Singapore and other cities are striving to develop competitive, attractive and resilient downtowns for the future. CLC is proud to have contributed to the Bloomberg Dynamic Cities Dashboard which was launched earlier this year. This data-driven dashboard aims to be a dynamic tool supporting city and business leaders in pursuit of a more holistic approach to urban development. It was designed to highlight important elements of urban living in cities, regardless of size, with progress measured and tracked over time to enable productive change. CLC’s Executive Director Hugh Lim has been a member of the Bloomberg New Economy Cities Council since its inception in May 2021, alongside other global thought leaders. Through his membership, CLC provided inputs, and feedback for the Dashboard, as well as both Singapore and overseas case studies. We also worked with our sister agency the National Parks Board in presenting a case study on Cities In Nature. We look forward to contributing more towards this very significant tool for global cities. https://lnkd.in/gZRZV9Zf

CLC, and our co-organiser URA, wrapped up the 9th edition of the World Cities Summit 3 weeks ago. This year’s edition, themed “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Rejuvenate, Reinvent, Reimagine”, saw close to 3,500 delegates attending an extended programme of over 30 plenaries and sessions. We also hosted over 40 exhibitors and presenters in the WCS Exhibition, where innovations and solutions for urban challenges were featured. In addition, 8 Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), were inked and several publications were launched. We look forward to closer collaborations and knowledge sharing through joint projects and studies in the future. CLC’s newly launched publications may be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/g7jCCFyF We will also be sharing videos of selected WCS sessions, so do follow the World Cities Summit page for the latest updates.
The 9th edition of the World Cities Summit (WCS) brought together city leaders, industry professionals, and academia to drive thought leadership on pressing challenges and explore strategies for building more resilient, regenerative, and liveable urban environments. With about 3,500 participants attending more than 30 plenaries, sessions, discussions and roundtables over three days, delegates shared and learned from one another, transformative approaches to sustainable urban development that would better place cities to serve their communities, now and into the future. WCS 2024 facilitated the signing of eight Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and agreements, and the launch of several publications that include the latest Liveable and Sustainable Cities Framework, fostering new alliances across the private and public sectors. Greater collaboration and knowledge sharing between cities in urban development are crucial to shaping more sustainable cities of tomorrow. As a premier platform for dialogue and innovation, WCS will continue to advance the global urban agenda by addressing the pressing urban complexities of our time and elevating sustainable solutions that seek to benefit communities globally. Thank you once again to all delegates, city leaders, industry experts, participants, and everyone who helped to make WCS 2024 possible. #WorldCitiesSummit #LiveableCities #SustainableCities

CLC and our programme partner, the Building and Construction Authority Academy (the Building and Construction Authority’s education and training arm), celebrated the 100th run of our City Executive Leaders (EXCEL) programme in May this year. Incepted in 2013, City EXCEL shares Singapore’s experience in urban development, governance, and best practices for creating liveable and sustainable cities. The programme enables participants to understand Singapore’s transformation journey and be better equipped to tackle the challenges ahead. We have welcomed over 2,700 participants since the programme began. CLC and BCAA are excited to continue developing future leaders in Singapore’s Infrastructure & Environment sector as we progress beyond this significant milestone for City EXCEL. To the next 100! https://lnkd.in/gEB2dgA5 #clcsg #urban #cities #sustainablecities #liveablecities #resilientcities #capabilitydevelopment

Earth Day is about communities coming together to make a meaningful impact and create a more sustainable world. Cities across the world are subject to societal disruptions, climate stresses and financial constraints, but they also have great capacity to evolve and adapt to become liveable and sustainable cities. Water management challenges are not new to Surat. They have been actively addressing these challenges since the launch of its city resilience strategy in 2017. Through the sharing of knowledge and ideas at the Temasek Foundation Urban Resilience Programme (TFURP), city leaders were able to continue building on their key initiatives to secure its water future and set an inspiring example for other cities facing similar challenges.
