We were awarded this coveted site at Sengkang Central in 2018 under the two-envelope tender system prioritising design and concept over price. We are proud to announce the official opening of the Singapore Sustainability Academy (SSA) Annex. Located on the roof terrace of City Square Mall, the 2,690 sq ft SSA Annex was opened today by Guest-of-Honour Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Mr Heng Swee Keat. The SSA Annex is an extension of the existing 4,300 sq ft SSA that was opened in 2017, marking Singapore’s first major People, Public and Private (3P) ground-up initiative that supports global and national goals to tackle climate change. SSA Annex aims to promote sustainable practices, advocate for a low-carbon economy, and engage in businesses and the community. Intentionally built with conference facilities for in-person and virtual meetings, it anticipates uniting partners to develop innovative solutions that help advance collaborative efforts in climate action. It also houses classrooms and a gallery for sustainability-related training programmes and advocacy events, through engaging and educating partners and attendees, including members of the public. CDL’s Group CEO, Mr Sherman Kwek, said, “Addressing climate change requires collaborative efforts across industries, governments and organisations. Through strategic partnerships, we can harness diverse expertise and resources to accelerate innovative solutions for a sustainable future. Since opening the SSA seven years ago, the facility has hosted over 1,000 events and training sessions, welcomed over 35,000 visitors and engaged more than 100 partners. This week, City Developments Limited's Head of Property Development Division, Lee Mei Ling and Head of Green Building, Decarbonisation & Safety, Allen Ang, visited the Newport construction site to connect with workers and highlight the importance of staying cool while staying out. The visit is part of CDL’s ExCo and senior management monthly site engagement with workers, aimed at understanding the safety and health protocols that are currently practised onsite. Besides emphasising on workplace safety, CDL shared tips with workers on staying hydrated, distributed portable fans to help them cope with the heat. We were also invited to present our main contractor, Woh Hup (Private) Limited's “Most Safety Conscious” Award of the month to six of their supervisors and workers. CDL is inspired by the dedication of the workers and is fully committed to supporting their wellbeing. 50 of our employees recently had an incredible opportunity to visit Samwoh Smart Hub – Singapore's first BCA Green Mark Platinum (Positive Energy) building, to learn about Samwoh's innovative and sustainable practices. This visit forms part of CDL employees’ foundational training on sustainability. Our employees gained insights into Samwoh’s advanced civil and infrastructure engineering capabilities, their strategic innovations in sustainable construction and pioneering efforts in developing low-carbon construction materials. They also learnt about Samwoh’s initiatives and efforts in place for the health and wellbeing of their employees. It was truly inspiring to witness the behind-the-scenes research efforts that go into achieving a positive energy building. This experience has not only broadened our employees’ understanding but also motivated us to press on for our own sustainability initiatives!
