Centre for Healthy Longevity (CHL), based in Singapore, brings together scientists and clinicians to investigate the multifaceted aspects of ageing. Our mission is to add healthy years of life by delaying ageing, prolonging disease-free life and maintaining high functionality. We synergise basic and clinical science to develop biomarkers for measuring ageing, to test interventions that slow down ageing, and to create personalized implementation strategies that extend healthy life expectancy in Singapore and worldwide. Centre for Healthy Longevity is supported by National University of Singapore (NUS) and National University Health Systems (NUHS). At NUS, we are part of the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The programme aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the biology of ageing by identifying and manipulating common pathways that modulate ageing in vitro and in vivo, and then to seek methods for translation to humans. At NUHS, we are one of the six Centres of Excellence dedicated to advance breakthroughs in innovation, create new models of care, and forge collaborative partnership with the community, to improve the quality of life for Singaporeans.

Exciting Research Update! Our latest systematic review explores the promising potential of #Urolithin A (UA), a gut metabolite derived from ellagic acid, in promoting #healthy #aging. Involving 250 healthy participants, the studies showed that UA supplementation (10–1000 mg/day for 28 days to 4 months) had several notable effects: - Dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effects - Upregulation of mitochondrial genes and markers of autophagy - Increased muscle strength and endurance While it didn't impact mitochondrial ATP production or gut microbiota, UA showed promising results without serious side effects. We're excited to share our latest research: "Practical Guide for Choosing #Wearables in Community-Dwelling Adults" by our team led by Prof. Andrea B. Maier and Jessica Lu This guide offers a step-by-step approach for researchers, healthcare professionals, and device users, focusing on five core criteria: continuous monitoring, availability, accuracy, feasibility, and cost. By incorporating FDA, CTTI, and ePRO Consortium recommendations, the guide ensures a thorough and adaptable evaluation process that keeps up with rapid tech advancements. It aims to optimize device selection by balancing technical performance and user experience. Explore the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eq9WwDR8 Weilan Wang Jorming G. New Research Highlights Quality Concerns in Anti-Aging Supplements 🧬 A recent study by our research team led by Prof. Andrea B. Maier and Elena Sandalova analyzed 18 Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) and 5 Urolithin A (UA) supplements, which are widely marketed for their anti-aging benefits. We found significant discrepancies between the labeled and actual content of these supplements. Some products contained up to 28.6% more of the active ingredient than stated, while others had none at all. These findings underscore the need for improved quality control and stricter regulations in the supplement industry to ensure consumers receive reliable and accurate products. A recent study done by Laure Verstraeten's team and Prof. Andrea B. Maier has shed light on the prevalence and co-occurrence of geriatric syndromes among elderly patients in #rehabilitation settings. Here are the key takeaways: 1. High Prevalence of Multiple Syndromes: 70% of patients presented with ≥5 geriatric syndromes at admission for both the RESORT and EMPOWER cohorts. These include medication overload (#polypharmacy), multiple #diseases (#multimorbidity), #physical limitations, and #frailty. 2. Co-occurrence of Syndromes: Nearly all patients had multiple co-occurring syndromes, underscoring the complexity of geriatric patient care in rehabilitation settings. Syndromes rarely occur in isolation. These findings highlight the necessity for comprehensive geriatric assessments (CGA) at admission to tailor rehabilitation plans effectively. Exciting new study alert! Professors Andrea B. Maier, @Carlos López-Otín, and Guido KROEMER, have published groundbreaking research in Nature Portfolio. They discovered that aging, like cancer, is driven by specific genes! In #cancer, mutations or overactive genes (#oncogenes) and failing tumor suppressor genes make cancer cells stronger and help them grow, dodging our body’s defenses. Similarly, #aging is influenced by genes that promote aging (#gerogenes) and the breakdown of protective genes. These genes impact overall health, leading to aging symptoms. By targeting these genes, precision medicine can be developed to slow aging and improve healthspan. This revolutionary approach offers hope for more personalized and effective treatments!
