Future Scientist Visits Allozymes Meet Ellie, a prospective chemistry undergraduate, who recently attended an event where our protein scientist, Shelly, was giving a talk on how she first started in science. Ellie was inspired by the talk and asked if she could come to Allozymes to shadow Shelly for a couple of days. One of our values, ‘curiosity,’ which we feel is about pushing the boundaries of knowledge and seeking answers, made our response an instant ‘yes!’ Ellie came down to our HQ and was welcomed by the entire team. As she shadowed Shelly and her team, Ellie was particularly impressed by our UHTP microfluidics platform and was also fascinated by Allozymes' unique approach to bioengineering enzymes and building a comprehensive enzyme library. But what truly resonated with her was seeing science in action. "My favorite part was observing the step-by-step process of the experiments," she said. "In school, we learn the theory, but here I saw how it's done in real life." This visit also challenged some of Ellie’s preconceptions about science. "I learned that experiments don't always go according to plan," she explained. "But that's part of the fun – the unexpected discoveries along the way." She also observed the importance of patience and passion in research, something she hopes to carry with her in her future endeavors. Speaking of the future, she is passionate about science because "it's everywhere in our lives." She's particularly interested in areas like pharmaceutical science and food science, and loves how it can be applied to real-world challenges like climate change and developing plant-based alternatives. When asked what advice she would give to others interested in science, she is enthusiastic: "Go for it. The science field is diverse and needs passionate people." We were all inspired by her curiosity and enthusiasm. Thanks for visiting, Ellie! #FutureScientists #Allozymes #Careers
