In our fundraising journey, we've engaged with many investors. Providing inclusive financing for smallholder farmers in the rice sector is a niche within a niche, so we’re grateful when investors recognise the immense potential of the space we work in, and demonstrate their belief in our mission through tangible support. We're thrilled to welcome Better Bite Ventures to the AgriG8 family. Alongside the continued support from The Trendlines Group and an angel investor, this investment fuels our regional pilots for an inclusive financing solution - one that not only uplifts the livelihoods of rice farmers but also incentivises the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. We’re affirmed by the vote of confidence and remain unwavering in our commitment to drive sustainable change. Join us on our transformative journey to reshape sustainable rice cultivation across Southeast Asia 🌾 Find out more about how we’re working towards that at https://lnkd.in/gckm6WEj

AgriG8's digital platform allows access to finance and incentivises methane-reducing farming practices, while the gamified smartphone app CropPal helps them report emissions-reducing practices they have implemented. Additionally, AgriG8 uses satellite images combined with machine learning to validate water management practices associated with methane reduction. Its water management system, called alternate wetting and drying (AWD), combined with other solutions can lead to a 55 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. David C.Y. 🌾💰 AGRIG8 RECEIVED FINANCING TO HELP RICE FARMERS IN ASIA REDUCE METHANE EMISSIONS VC firms Better Bite Ventures and The Trendlines Group have invested an undisclosed sum in AgriG8, a startup that supports Asian rice farmers in decarbonising their production methods. “Decarbonising rice production is one of the focus areas for Better Bite’s investments,” said Michal Klar, founding partner at Better Bite Ventures. “Rice is one of the top sources of food and agricultural emissions in Asia-Pacific. We believe AgriG8 will help to accelerate deployment of methane-reducing farming practices, using their unique set of tech and finance tools.” Founded in 2021 by David C.Y. Chen and Joshua Tan, AgriG8 works with “local farmer aggregators such as cooperatives and NGOs” to help farmers reduce emissions. It has built a gamified digital platform, CropPal, to receive data from producers, as well as finance and incentive methane-cutting agricultural practices. Gamifying the design offers a “fun and easy onboarding experience”, Chen explained. “Farmers could report their seeding approach, water management and nutrient management via CropPal,” said Chen. “By submitting quality data, farmers unlock real-world rewards like loan rebates. For instance, optimising water usage and verifying it through CropPal can directly translate into financial savings.” Some estimates suggest rice’s greenhouse gas emissions are nearly on par with the global aviation industry (around 2% of the global total). It also accounts for 10% of anthropogenic methane emissions, which is a shorter-lived, yet much more potent gas. So, reducing the climate footprint of rice is essential for governments and food companies in Asia to meet their net-zero targets. It’s because more than 90% of the world’s rice, meanwhile, is grown in Asia, but increasing temperatures could shrink yields of the crop by 40% by the end of the century. Other startups innovating with future-friendly rice include Indian-American firm MittiLabs and France’s Carbonfarm, both of which use AI and satellite tech for carbon credits, though the efficacy of the voluntary carbon market has been called into question multiple times. Singapore-based Rize, meanwhile, buys seeds, fertilisers, and other inputs in bulk and sells them to farmers who implement AWD. #GreenQueen #agriculture #agritech #farming #sustainability #climatechange #climateaction #emissions

At AgriG8, we always value getting to go to the ground and hearing from the farmers themselves, to continually refine our farmers-first approach. A few weeks ago, with Agriterra Vietnam, we embarked on a thought-provoking visit to Tra Vinh, Vietnam, where we engaged the local rice farming communities, and left with fresh perspectives and insights. This is just the beginning - we’re thrilled to join forces with Agriterra Vietnam (and some other partners 😉) as we gear up to launch an exciting pilot to better empower smallholder rice farmers in Vietnam. #SmallholderFarmers #Rice #AgriTech #AgTech #ClimateTech #SustainableAgriculture #FinancialInclusion

Empowering #Rice Cooperatives with Affordable #Finance through #CropPal Agriterra and AgriG8 have embarked on an ambitious #initiative to empower rice farmers by providing them with affordable financing options. As part of this effort, from 21-23/05/2024, a comprehensive #baseline survey was conducted at 2 rice cooperatives: Rach Lop Coop (RACO) and Phu My Chau Coop (PMCC) to lay the groundwork for a pioneering pilot project: "Enable farmers to access affordable finance for their rice farming via CropPal application" in the Mekong River Delta (MRD). The survey involved 30 farmers, 3 input providers, and 2 rice buyers/processors. Results showed that CropPal not only enhances farm tracking but also offers better-priced inputs through #greenfinanciers facilitated by AgriG8 and Agriterra. In the next step, Agriterra will collaborate with AgriG8 to define the roles of all parties involved in this initiative. Together, we will refine the model’s workflow and develop a comprehensive action plan for this initiative to support 200 farmers in adopting CropPal and #accessingfinance. This initiative aims to boost farmers' productivity and financial stability, showcasing Agriterra and AgriG8's commitment to #sustainableagriculture. #Agriterra #AgriG8 #greenfinance #cooperativedevelopment

🎉 We are thrilled to share that AgriG8 was one of the two global finalists (out of 196 applicants) selected for The Philippines track in The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance's 2024 call for ideas! It was an honour to have been recognised for our innovative approach towards addressing the threat of climate breakdown to the agricultural sector. Although our solution, the Rice Resilience Bond, didn't make it to the final cohort, we are immensely proud of the journey we've embarked upon. Being part of The Lab's rigorous selection process has been an invaluable experience. Not only did we get an opportunity to showcase our vision and commitment to leveraging finance for sustainable agriculture, but the feedback received from all the esteemed panel members went a long way in pushing us to sharpen our solution as well. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the selected finalists for The Lab's 10th cohort, and are looking forward to how your innovative ideas will pave the way for transformative climate finance. As we continue our journey, we remain steadfast in our mission to empower farmers, protect our planet, and build a more resilient future for all. Thank you to The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance for the opportunity, and to their incredible team for the support along the way. 🌾 Did You Know? 🌍 In South and Southeast Asia, smallholder farmers represent a staggering untapped market opportunity of US$163 billion, according to the Rural and Agricultural Finance State of the Sector Report (https://lnkd.in/gNhqQp8k).    Over the last decade, the world has awakened to the threats facing our global food system—resource depletion and, more urgently, climate change. From the 2007-2008 food price crisis to the recent disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, no country is immune to these risks. Asia, where 450 million smallholder farmers produce over 80% of the region's food, is both the epicentre of these challenges and the key to their resolution. As Asia already accounts for half of the global food market, and its population is projected to grow by 250 million people by 2030, the significance is undeniable. Rice, a staple for billions, is responsible for about 10% of global methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas.  This insight comes from a novel whitepaper executed with the support of the Monetary Authority of Singapore over a span of 18 months. The study involved active engagement with stakeholders in the regional rice industry, emphasising the crucial connection between agriculture, climate change, and economic prospects. Thank you Prof Paul Teng, Wei-Li Woo, Accenture Development Partnerships, and Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for the development of this paper. 📚 Read the whitepaper here: https://www.agrig8.com/ Join Us in Transforming Agriculture! 🚀  To explore investment opportunities and be part of this transformative journey, contact us.
