How we produce things defines how we will live in a sustainable and resilient future. Production is key to societal success, while digitalisation and resilience engineering will reduce human environmental impact and help to create good jobs.
I am a Professor, innovation manager, and community-builder in the field of production & manufacturing. I am proud to head a division of truly amazing people focused on Production Systems, at Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden.
About 40% of my time I co-direct the Swedish Strategic Innovation Programme, Produktion2030, which funds national production innovation, research, education, and upskilling. During my career I have had strategic and operational roles in the building of several large innovation ecosystems, nationally and internationally.
I am deeply involved in the European manufacturing research agenda and I have the honour to contribute to initiatives at the World Economic Forum.
Major research challenges:
- Creating real human-centred manufacturing in industrial production systems
- Creating better augmentation for human capabilities and design smart collaboration between humans and automation or robots in industry 4.0 and 5.0.
- Identyfying skills needed for industry work in 2030
- Exploring how the Operator 5.0 will look like and how she will work
Personal skills:
- Research and education proficiency in production (manufacturing); digitalisation; automation; jobs and skills; human factors engineering; and historical industrial development.
- Structured professional curiosity and interviewing techniques
- Community-building, management, coaching, and innovation leadership
- University-industry-society collaboration leadership on national and international levels

What are some effective strategies for developing a diverse and inclusive team?
Diversity goal-setting is not about achieving a target number like 50/50. The miracle happens when you have a truly diverse team in a room, ready to solve a problem using their different perspectives and diverse skills. The solutions are soo much better and more robust when future customer requirements or objections have been foreseen in an open and diverse discussion already at "drawing-board" stage. Time-to-market decreases and quality increases. The goal should therefore be to have as many true perspectives as possible present when the decisions are made. That could apply to gender, nationality, age, or any other divider.

What are some tips for creating a strong online presence in R&D?
Succeeding with communicating R&D (results) requires you to interact with the "receiving/customer" side to understand and calibrate the impact of your message. Be nice and encouraging to others' posts. Initiate dialogue rather than argumentation. Follow and dig deeper. Human reciprocity will help to scale others' interest in your own posts and ideas.

Remember that communication is not a one-way process and that your goals should not just be about you presenting or promoting yourself but to understand what others in your target community thinks (about you). You can ask open questions to better understand your future peers.
