It's National Truckers Appreciation Day in the United States! Truckers work tirelessly to deliver goods to people across the globe. And without them, our economy would grind to a halt. Today, we celebrate the hard work that they do, and the sacrifices they make to keep the world turning. Our autonomous solutions will never replace truckers – these dedicated people will always be the backbone of the commercial freight industry. Instead, our goal is to help the transportation sector with additional freight capacity while allowing drivers to focus on routes better suited to work-life balance. #VolvoAutonomousSolutions #VAS #GuidedBySafety

Last week, our colleagues had the opportunity to hear directly from world-renowned autonomous safety expert Professor Philip Koopman from Carnegie Melon University. Professor Koopman discussed self-driving vehicle safety and understanding its implications in real-world applications. Thank you Professor Philip Koopman for your visit! You provided a lot of food for thought. #VolvoAutonomousSolutions #VAS #GuidedBySafety

We cut no corners when it comes to safety. And neither does our partner Aurora. Earlier this week, Volvo Autonomous Solutions' President Nils Chr. Jaeger and Aurora Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer Sterling Anderson discussed how we've integrated safety into our autonomous transport solution since day one at The Autonomous in Vienna. #VolvoAutonomousSolutions #VAS #GuidedBySafety Photo credit: Philipp Lipiarski

What a fantastic experience at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024! Our very own Alexsander Vasic took part in the insightful panel, "Autonomous Vehicle Safety, Terminology, and Steps to Standardization". Alex and other industry experts explored the steps needed to ensure the safety of autonomous vehicles, and covered topics ranging from global standardization to the interaction between AVs, first responders, and the public. #VolvoAutonomousSolutions #VAS #GuidedBySafety

Did you know that airplanes have featured redundancy for decades to ensure safe commercial air travel? Since safety is our main priority, we also use redundancy in our autonomous commercial transport solutions. It might sound strange or scary, but it’s nothing new. One of the first notable examples of redundancy in commercial transport is the Boeing 747 aircraft, also known as the "Jumbo Jet". Already in 1969, it featured two independent, redundant hydraulic systems, and four engines in case of engine failure. Today, redundancy can be found in various aircraft systems, such as flight control, navigation, communication, and air cabin pressurization. Are you interested in learning more about redundancy? As part of the Volvo Group, safety is in our DNA at Volvo Autonomous Solutions. 65 years ago, the modern three-point safety belt was perfected by Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin – and its patent was shared for free to the world. Today, safety is still our number one priority, and it's a crucial part of our design process. That's why we integrated redundant safety systems into the new Volvo VNL Autonomous from day one, and why safety runs through every step of our testing and validation. Follow our journey to see how we’re bringing our safety heritage into the future. #VolvoAutonomousSolutions #VAS #GuidedBySafety
