Sweco has received the validation and approval of our near-term emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The climate targets cover emissions across the company’s Scope 1, 2 and 3 and are consistent with the goals of the UN Paris Agreement. As Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancy, Sweco is committed to actively supporting the transition to a low-carbon society. The setting of science-based targets for the company’s own emissions reductions is one important step on Sweco’s decarbonisation pathway. In the near-term, Sweco’s science-based targets are: ➡ Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 90 per cent by 2030 ➡ Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions by 30 per cent by 2030  ➡ All reductions are made against 2020 as our base year ➡ The targets are consistent with halving total emissions by 2030 “We are pleased to have our near-term climate targets validated by SBTi, confirming their alignment with what the latest climate science considers necessary to limit global warming to 1.5⁰C. This is a testimony to Sweco’s climate action ambitions. As architects and engineers, we are uniquely positioned to influence and design sustainable solutions that meet the challenges of climate change and the SBTi validation is a clear signal for our clients and suppliers to join us in transforming society together,” says Åsa Bergman, President and CEO of Sweco. Sweco’s long-term target remains to reduce emissions across the company’s value chain and to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. F.v. Anders Reinertsen Liaøy fra Multiconsult, Linna V. Nature is degrading at an alarming rate. Over the past 50 years, wildlife populations have shrunk by almost three-quarters, according to the latest research by WWF. Policy makers, scientists, civil society, journalists and the business sector all gather this week in Cali, Colombia, for the biennial UN summit on biodiversity. What are the stakes at the UN Biodiversity COP16? And what results can we expect? Sweco has been attending UNFCCC COP meetings since 2009 as an observer for the business and industry group or as a part of the Swedish delegation. This year, Andreas Gyllenhammar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Sweco, attends COP16, analyses the setting and dives into the events at the UN summit. Sweco will design one of continental Europe’s largest battery parks, Green Turtle, for the energy storage company GIGA Storage Belgium. This facility will have a storage capacity of 2,800 MWh of electricity. The park will make a significant contribution to the energy grid by providing stored renewable energy during periods of low solar and wind energy production — thereby reducing Belgium’s reliance on gas power plants. Sweco will deliver the design of the civil engineering and electrical engineering works of the battery energy storage system (BESS). “In Belgium and across Europe, Sweco’s experts are heavily involved in the expansion of renewable energy and in the adaptation of power systems and electricity grids, to support clients in meeting new capacity requirements as electrification intensifies,” says Erwin Malcorps, Business Area President of Sweco in Belgium. “This is a flagship project for us in Belgium and an important project in realising the energy transition in Europe, where access to large-scale electricity storage plays a vital role. Sweco has been selected as our partner for the integral design because of their solid expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS),” says Joeri Siborgs, General Manager of GIGA Storage Belgium. Construction is set to begin in the summer of 2025 with completion of the new battery park expected by 2028. Click the link for more information about the project: https://lnkd.in/dnh5APTC

There are many emotions contained within the walls of a hospital – hope, happiness and joy, but also grief, worry and pain. It is a place where people come for various reasons, often when they are most vulnerable and sensitive, and where the staff have significant responsibility and high workloads. Therefore, the design of safe and well-thought-out healthcare environments is incredibly important to facilitate both work and recovery. Sweco has significant experience advising clients in the healthcare sector, from supporting industrial clients within the healthcare and pharma sector, to planning, designing, building and optimising hospitals and other health-oriented building projects. We create environments for difficult conversations and farewells, but also learning and technologically advanced treatment. Sweco’s current and past experience from healthcare projects include private and public clients across Europe. Through these projects, Sweco demonstrates its commitment to creating state-of-the-art healthcare facilities that not only serve the needs of the present but are also adaptable for the future, ensuring long-term value for patients, staff and the wider community. #Drinkwater #Vitalewaterketen #SwecoNL

Sweco has been awarded a new contract to establish a new plant for the industrial production of mycoprotein in Finland for the Finnish biotech start-up company Enifer. Production starts in 2026, and the plant will be the world's first to utilise side streams from food production on a commercial scale in an industrial symbiosis. Sweco will deliver services for project management, plant design, building permits, procurement and construction management in a project valued at EUR 4.2 million.  “Sweco is excited to be involved in enabling the food revolution, where domestic protein production that utilises side streams will reduce emissions from food production. Enifer’s production concept enables efficient protein production based on a circular economy, and we are grateful for the trust in our EPCM expertise. Our experience in food sector licensing will ensure fast implementation of this project,” says Thomas Hietto, Business Area President of Sweco Finland.
