We use our knowledge and convening power to strengthen water governance for a just, prosperous, and sustainable future
Om oss
SIWI is a water institute. We focus on a range of research and development topics within and around water that support decision-makers world. We believe that the best way to tackle water crises, and help bring about lasting change, is to strengthen water governance among public and private actors alike. SIWI’s strong, international team of knowledge-generators, convenors, facilitators, and trainers works to strengthen the systems and processes that govern access to and protection of fresh water, with the overarching aim to contribute to poverty eradication. SIWI also hosts several flagship programmes, including the UNDP-SIWI Water Governance Facility, the International Centre for Water Cooperation (ICWC), the Action Platform for Source-to-Sea Management (S2S Platform), and the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA). Through the Swedish Water House, we connect Swedish water stakeholders with each other and to international processes. This year at #COP27, we are proud to be a partner of the Water Pavilion, mobilising to put water at the heart of climate action. #Water4Climate

#Water is the thread that connects climate change vulnerabilities and responses when it comes to climate #mitigation and #adaptation. 💦 Climate mitigation and adaptation measures must therefore focus on water as a priority. Countries are giving more predominance to water-related strategies in their nationally determined contributions (#NDCs) to the Paris Agreement. However, there remains considerable room for enhancing these measures, as many NDCs lack specific, quantitative targets and fail to consider the cross-sectoral impacts of water use. SIWI, through the support of #GIZ, has developed recommendations based on a review on how the inclusion of water has evolved within the NDCs. ⏩ Download the policy brief for a detailed analysis and examples from countries on how these national climate plans can be achieved in practice. 📄 --- #SIWI #WaterGovernance #WaterScarcity #WaterSolutions #Freshwater #ClimateChange #CliamteMitigation #ClimateAdaptation #ParisAgreement #SDGs #SDG6 #ResilientCities #Resilience

The importance of exchanging knowledge, experiences, and expertise in the #WASH sector cannot be overstated. SIWI’s Amman office, in collaboration with UNICEF Libya, hosted representatives for an exposure visit in #Jordan. The aim was to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration within the water sector, and included representatives from #Libya’s Ministry of Water Resources, the General Company for Water and Wastewater (GCWW), the Man-made River Project Execution and Management Authority (MMRA), and the General Desalination Company (GDC). Experts Manal S. Al-Shraideh, Lara Nassar and Moez Allaoui led the delegation through success stories of the WASH university programme, the nexus approach on agriculture, solar, and water efficiency as well as innovative solutions for flood management and irrigation. The lessons learned in #Amman, and in the Western Africa Northern Asia (#WANA) region in general, can help representatives in Libya and other regions to make more informed, sustainable, and climate resilient decisions. --- #SIWI #WaterGovernance #WASH #WaterAndSantation #Wastewater #WaterManagement #WaterResources #PrivateSector #MENA #ClimateMitigation #ClimateAdaptation #Agriculture #WaterScarcity #WaterSolutions #WaterCooperation #BridgingBorders

Very inspiring to see concrete impact of the LoCoFoRest training SIWI's experts provided a few weeks ago. Creating change, one tree 🌳 , one drop at a time 💧, all over the world. 🌐 Thanks for sharing your experience Quoc Dung Phan.
LoCoFoRest in Jönköping, Sweden 2024! In order to find out the ways how to scale up restoration of forest landscapes while securing the prosperity of local communities and maintaining and improving ecosystem services, we, the participants of LoCoFoRest CR4, did have a chance for landing in Sweden and learning a lots with Skogsstyrelsen, The Eco-innovation Foundation and SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute We were not only inspired with new ideas related to Forest landscape restoration, but also introduced to Swedish habits and culture. 10 days of training bring me a profound understanding of how good governance, sustainable value chains and support to ecosystem services contribute to sustainable and scalable forest and landscape restoration. We are now ready to work with our own Change Projects (CPs ) which purpose is to identify specific barriers and opportunities for successful forest restoration, gather relevant stakeholders to discuss important factors, and investigate collaborative solutions. Vietnamese team will establish 2 different CPs which focus on acacia forest and mangroves. Final report will be judged in Thailand next year, and I will keep updating about this exciting activities. #LoCoFoRest #FLR #Forestrestoration #communitybased

#WaterResilience has become a key agenda for #cities today. 🏙️ Most natural and climate-change induced disasters usually manifest through #water, such as floods, storms, water-borne disease outbreaks, and droughts. Amid the #ClimateChange impacts, it is necessary that cities prioritize on improving the governance of its #freshwater systems, including its #rivers. In this policy brief, SIWI's Panchali Saikia and Malin Lundberg Ingemarsson explain the governance gaps and present recommendations to accelerate convergence of #WaterGovernance and #ClimateAction. JUNE 24 is International Day of #WomenInDiplomacy. 🌐 At SIWI, we are proud to support 'The Women in Water Diplomacy Network'. Since its inception in 2017 in the Nile Basin, the Network has gained tremendous momentum, reaching out to new members and expending to other regions all over the world. But most importantly, the Network plays an instrumental role in lifting members up in their careers. The illustration by SIWI's Radhika Gupta, was created for the last Global Network Forum, in Vienna, supported by Environmental Law Institute, OSCE and The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia. This artwork is a reminder of the collective power of women. Everyone is lifting each other up, to reach new heights by scaling the mountain itself. 🏔️ --- #SIWI #watergovernance #WaterDiplomacy #BridgingBorders #WaterSolutions #WaterWomen #GenderEquality #Gender #Inclusion
