🖊 Reflections from Horse Welfare Summit 💡 We are facing a paradigm shift! This was clearly visible when equine experts from across the world shared their knowledge and insight with more than 1000 delegates for two days. 🔥 For me, the highlight was to meet up with a whole bunch of old and new friends, all united in a strong wish to make life better for our beloved horses. I feel an enormous power when we all come together and openly discuss the road forward. 🐴 The red thread from both lecturer and practical clinic was that we need to consider both the physical and the mental state of the horse. Inga Wolframm talked about Human Behaviour Change, which I think is necessary since we cannot go on doing what we always have done. And Tristan and Anna Blomberg showed us how a combination of ethology, equitation science, horsemanship and human psychology can be put into practice. They clearly showed us how much horses are influenced by us humans, and how horses can grow when they learn from a place of relaxation and confidence. 🏇 However, the most interesting for me personally, was to meet up with the fantastic researcher Victoria Lewis Hartpury University and Hartpury College college in England. We both share the common belief that the rider’s position has a big influence on the horse’s health and wellbeing, and that objective measures and tailored training for riders off the horse can be beneficial for the wellbeing of both riders and horses. 💯 By combining data from our app Rider’s Position Coach with her technique to measure for instance pelvis movements and stirrup pressure, we could gather lots of useful data and insights for the future. 🤔 Lisa Ashton, also from Hartpury College, highlighted that we all need to be reflexive riders and ask ourselves “what we do with our horses, what we have done in the past, and what we can do better”. 🌟 I will try my best and I am convinced that we all can contribute in our own way to a good life for horses!
