Big news, coffee lovers! We’re thrilled to spill the beans on our latest partnership between Planboo and Biodiversal — the very first biochar project with coffee growers in Colombia! 🌱☕️🌟 “Our partnership with Biodiversal provides an enormous opportunity to boost both climate resilience and the livelihoods of smallholder coffee farmers in Colombia. By turning agricultural waste into biochar and using Planboo's #MRV tracking technology, this collaboration will not only capture carbon and generate trustworthy carbon removal credits but also enrich the soil, enhance crop productivity, and empower thousands of small-scale farmers across Colombia,” says Fred Hornaday, Planboo’s Project Manager. Did you know that nearly a third of all harvested bamboo typically ends in waste? 🎋 In Thailand, our fantastic partners at Wongphai I BIOCHAR are addressing this issue by turning bamboo waste into biochar. Instead of letting this waste go up in smoke — quite literally — and releasing harmful methane and carbon into the air, it’s now being repurposed into a trustworthy carbon removal solution with endless benefits! For us, biochar is so much more than just carbon removal: it's about the people and the stories behind it. 🇹🇭 In the Prachinburi region in Thailand, bamboo farming has always been more than just work – it’s tradition, it’s community, it’s a way of life. But rising costs and chemical fertilizers have left the soil worn out, putting farmers at a crossroads. Our project partner Wongphai I BIOCHAR is leading a community-driven initiative in the region to transform bamboo waste into biochar, and with it, rewrite the future. Field update: Biochar production training with cotton farmers in Zambia! 🌿🇿🇲 Cotton is more than a crop in Zambia – it’s the livelihood of over 300,000 smallholder farmers. Yet, with production down 50% since 2012, partly due to severe droughts resulting in soil degradation, the future of this industry has been hanging by a thread. That’s why we’re especially excited to see our biochar project with Solidaridad Network come to life. Last month, we held our biochar production training in the region, empowering farmers around the country to turn cotton and maize waste into biochar to generate high-quality carbon credits, all while improving the quality of their soils.
